mossberg rifle opinions??

I have been in a search for a good cheap rifle to get my girlfriend for christmas. My budget is around 400 bucks for now, and i recently came across a mossberg 100 atr in 243 for 199.88 on clearance. The gun looks fine though the cheapo plastic stock is a turn off. She likes wood stocks anyway so if I buy it i will order a replacement walnut stock from boyd's. But I was wondering what sort of first hand experience people had with this rifle. Not internet myth but someone who actually picked it up and fired it. I have heard some unsubstantiated rumors that they are crap but i have also seen reviews that are positive, So anyone who has some thoughts I would love the help and the discussion.

I purchased a 100atr in 30.06 a couple weeks ago. It will not be my primary rifle but I didn't have a 30.06 and it was cheap so I pounced.

I like it. I don't have an issue with the syn stock. Shoots well for a bargain rifle. The internal mag is the biggest drawback but it's fine in a hunting rifle in my opinion.

The pic below is my final 5 shots while zeroing it for 2inches high at 100yds. From a bench with sandbag in front. The first two shots were 1 inch high and just left of center. The others 2 in high and just right of center are the last 3.

I have one in .270 and it shoots near MOA with Remington Cor-Lokt 150gr. ammo which is all I have ever shot thru it. Its a cheap gun but mine works just fine.
