Mossberg pistol grip "blackwater" shotgun opinion

Looking for a pistol grip shotgun. I'm not looking at one for the super cool factor, just for the compact nature.

What is your opinion or experience on this gun?
 
I personally own a 14" Mossberg 590A1 and also use one on duty as a LEO. I've also been issued a Remington 870 in the past. I've primarily used pump shotguns in both my LE and military careers.

Mossberg shotguns are beasts...sturdy and tough, they'll eat anything you feed 'em. I am not a fan of a pistol grip on Mossberg shotguns because it is a very difficult reach from pistol grip to the tang safety. A pistol grip is better suited to a shotgun with its safety located on or near the trigger guard, like a Remington, Benelli, etc. Just my 2 cents.
 
The sole advantage to a PGO shotgun is storage. Unless you have major space issues, you're better off with a real shotgun.

And as stated, Mossbergs and PGs have that tang safety incompatibility.
 
Actually, if I wanted Mossberg with a pistol grip I'd build it on a Maverick receiver. The safety is in front of the trigger-guard on those. I've been shooting the heck out of an 88 with a Mossberg 8-shot front end on it, no fuss so far.
 
Yeah.. I Really want them to laser etch a logo of a for profit entity on my gun? And that area is now BARE alloy ripe for corrosion with out taking special steps to prevent it.

No matter which BW labeled gun you choose... it is the same as a regular model with a pretty farkle added and a much inceased price...

I'm REALLY not into tacticool stuff.

I like the compact nature of the gun. Had a Mossberg 590 before and liked it.

I do like the nylon hand loop on the pump.

The blackwater etching business I can live without.

Have never shot a pistol grip shotgun and didn't know if it was a reasonable choice or just a "cool" thing. I live in a small place, am trying to put a small collection together and space is a priority. Also, if I ever were to need to carry it, this would undoubtedly be easier to pack, maybe even in a ruck sack.

Anyone make a decent folding stock?
 
The shotgun is a bit puzzling.

Blackwater doesn't exist anymore since they became "Xe".

I personally wouldn't want a shotgun with the mark of a controversial mercenary organization well known for wide-ranging international misconduct.

Mossberg makes good shotguns, but I really don't like the Blackwater stamp.

Pistol grip only shotguns are of limited utility. A folding stock would be more practical.
