Mossberg New Haven 600 AT

I just became the owner of this 12 ga. shotty. It is in pristine condition, hard to tell from a brand new gun. This is my first shotgun and I feel silly because I know nothing about them. I traded even for my old Russian M44 Mosin Nagant. Please tell me about this gun, and how do I find out how old it is? The serial # is H463XXX. Can the barrel be shortened for a nice HD weapon?:eek: I only had $115 in my old M44 so I think I made a good deal.
 
Sounds like a fair trade. The New Haven 600 series is basically the same as the Mossberg 500 series. New Haven is/was Mossberg's promotional line that was sold by other retailer (Montgomery Wards, Western Auto etc). Most all parts interchange IIRC. Mossberg barrels are rather inexpensive at gunshows and shops as there are so many around. The 8-shot barrels are a bit harder to find but you also need to change out the magazine to a factory extended magazine to use an 8-shot barrel. Just buy any inexpensive 5-shot barrel as adapt it to your needs (but remember to keep it over 18 inches if you live in the USA).
