Mossberg MVP Patrol

These are pretty well thought of.The detachable magazine and flash hider plus the short barrel make these a scout rifle. I also believe they use AR mags which is a huge bonus over the Ruger .223 scout rifle. My two cents?

Buy one. They rock.

I have one, I wouldnt buy another. Accurate enough, but not what I really consider "accurate".

The action is very "hitchy", and sometimes you have to pull the bolt back a tad and they push it home, as it doesnt want to lock up.

The AR mag seems like a good idea at first blush, but it limits you to an overall cartridge length that will fit into them. Longer, heavier bullets that go past the OAL of standard 5.56 wont fit in the mag.

Id suggest you get one in your hands and look closely at it before you buy.

I have one. Would certainly buy another. Sub-MOA. Mine has a suppressor on it most of the time. The AR Mag is a big benefit. The action is not marvelous, but certainly functional and I have never had any issues with it at all.

The comparable gun is the Ruger American Ranch. It is a little better gun, but the magazines are the weak link of the Americans if you shoot a lot of rounds. The rotary mags don't feed well all the time and I have thrown several away that just would no longer run.

TMD, if the Ruger American Ranch was AR15 magazine fed, that is what I would have. I have sent my emails to Ruger. :)

I was also looking at the Ruger at the time I got the Mossberg, but they seemed to be in demand at the time and there were none to be had. I wish Id waited.

After actually getting my hands on the Ruger, I dont think Id go that route now either. The Savage Hog Hunter would be my choice. I didnt see one with a 16" barrel though.

I had the MVP predator, same action different stock. it's the worst rifle I ever bought. fails to feed all over the place, poor quality stock too, poor fitting, definitely not worth the price. equivalently priced rifles that are a better buy in my opinion are the Howa1500 detachable mag models and the Ruger American Ranch.

I hear complaints about the 223 MVPs now and then. I have one in 308, and it's not what I would call "refined" of "classy" but overall I have been quite pleased with it. I know a few other men who own 308s too, and none of us have had any problems with them. Mine is accurate. Not super accurate, but MOA is within it's capability. My best 150 grain hunting loads shoot about 1-1/8" Some loads with target bullets can do better, but I have no use for them.

I don't like the blocky oversized laminated stocks, so I have slimmed mine down and I have done the same thing of 4 others. Here is a picture of my rifle after the slimming. I bet they would sell better if Mossberg did this kind of shaping.

I also added the AR-10 flash hider so I can carry it muzzle down on the truck floor and not get dirt or mud into the muzzle.

I'm waiting for a Savage Axis in .223 to arrive. People have converted AR mags to work and the one I ordered is threaded. Black Friday sale for $199 after rebate was what got me interested. I have always wanted an MVP but this deal was too good to pass up.
