can someone point me towards a website that sells the HD models of these for around 200-230$
I went to one of my local gun shops and I think the owner is on crack cause he has them tagged for 369$ (Yes the Maverick 88 not the 500)
thanks in advance

For 188 at walmart and a 10 dollar hacksaw you have the 18-21 inch (gotta end the cut at a rib support) just needing the hole for the bead drilled and tapped. cheapest way as they seem to be in a high demand so MSRP is pretty high.

mp25ds4- Just a suggestion but I would by the Maverick from Walmart(good price) and then try and sell the 28 in. barrel online to fund the money towards a shorter barrel... I got $80 bucks selling the 28in. one on Amazon.

I bought a 20 in. barrel because you have the option to use chokes while with the 18 1/2 in you can't. I could be wrong but I would think you would have better patterns with the 20 in. and chokes than just the 18 1/2 in. cyl. bore barrel. You can also use it for other things besides HD. I don't have the money for a gun for this and a gun for this so I make do.

I haven't patterned the gun yet with the 20 in. barrel but I'll let you know.

I use my for HD but it's also nice to carry in the woods, a lot shorter and handier feeling than the 28 in that I originally bought. JUST my opinion but good luck! :)

Horrible picture as it was bad lighting and a cell phone picture but here's my Maverick 88 with 20 in. barrel and sling...

Obviously a supply and demand issue as well as the uber-kool factor. The 28 inch barrel is ribbed and tapped for accu-choke with a MOD included... Thus more metal cost, labor cost and R&D type costs and finally shipping cost on the final end due to increased box dimensions and weight.

mossberg 410 hd pistol grip

I went to my dealer and wanted one. Had to wait two months to get it and payed $319 for it? I am very new to guns and don't know about prices? Mine is legal and warranted by mossberg. If you buy a gun and cut on it will the warranty still be good? Does it really matter?

Shooting it hard and fast for a few boxes should verify a good barrel at the chamber end where the lug of the bolt locks. Warranty of the action shouldn't be void if a barrel is swapped or cut but I am not positive of this...

I got my Maverick from Wal-Mart about 3 years ago. I dont know what they go for now, but I paid $139 for mine, then bought a shorter barrel to use for HD from Academy for about $80.

ar15, they are now 188-200 now. The shorter barrels seem to be in very high demand and when found are usually 99-129 or so...

yer just a young buck I see... I remember buying a box per day with school lunch money so we could skip school to hunt from a feed store (no discounts there) for $1.75-$1.85 IIRC.:o That would be mid eighties...

Personally i think that that is way too high. I recently bought a Mossberg 500 for $219 OTD brand new in the box with two barrels.

ok went to the local walmart and I guess Im going to be getting a 500 cause they're only $207 for the field version, but my question is, is there a difference in the field version and the security version besides the barrel length?

Stock material style and barrel style and length are the only difference with any Mossberg 500... receivers are alloy, trigger group housing is plastic as is safety lever. All guts including action bars are identical.
The only possible difference is immaterial to operation and that is the forestock "tube" length. Only time that matters is replacing forestock but plenty for both lengths abound.

Looked forever for a Mav 88 12 gauge. Finally after stopping everywhere I traveled in the state of KY.(Wally world, Dicks, Pawn Shops) I finally found one at Gander Mountain in Bowling Green. The accessories were easy to get. Combathunting.com had top fold/pistol grip stock, heat shield, hard shell holder, flashlight mount. Then I got the 18.5 inch barrel at Budsgunshop.com for $70. All in all I got less than $300 in all and I can convert to the home defense shotgun or the all purpose hunting shotgun in less than 10 mins. great bargin and I couldnt be happier. I own 3 other Mossy 500s so they are all interchangeble.

Where'd you find that? The local Walmart here has a 500 field model for $207 and to get one with two barrels (field/security), the only place I found locally was Dick's for $269 (but they're out of stock :( )

That must've been a pleasant surprise. I just wish they had it in stock here.

My other option is just getting the 500 from Walmart for $207 and then getting the 18.5" barrel separate for around $79. With tax on both it'd put it near $300. I have seen the barrel online for $69, but it's closer to $79 with shipping which is what I've seen it at a nearby shop.
