Mossberg man's gonna try his luck with a Remington...

The first gun I ever owned was a Mossberg 500. I've since sold it but have bought a couple more over the years and always preferred them over the Remington. Even a couple of years ago when my little P.D. updated our shotguns, I chose a new 500 over the 870s that everyone else chose. The main reason for that is I've gotten so used to where the pump release button is on the Mossy and couldn't ever get used to where it is on the Remington...

Couldn't pass it up. I got an excellent price on a gun that is mint except for a ding or two in the stocks. Now, I'm going to look for a smoothbore slug barrel with sights and turn it into a fun gun to play with.

After 30+ years on the Sheriff's Detective Felony Squad I carried a Mossberg 500 in the gunlock. Seldom used it except for qualifications. My favorite weapon was a dept issued Mini-14. It was put into action more often than the Mossy. If I had time and space, it would be interesting to share a few war stories with you. That Mossy is the only gun that met federal specs and we weren't issued anything else.

Nice looking gun there, the 500 vs 870 thing is very much over done here and everywhere.

And I say that being very much partial to the 870 more for it's steel reciever than anything else.

Keep in mind the Winchester 12 / 1200 / 1300 and Ithica 37 were used as well though to a much narrower extent and did a respectable job though I do feel an 870 or 500 is superior to these designs.

Of course I know one older gentleman who still prefers the winchester 12 for it's lack of a disconnector.... as he was taught to fire rapidly using the 12 without a disconnector. Of course the applicability fo that method in modern LE or civilian use is very much questionable these days.
 
we have 870s in our crusiers, but i have a Mossy at home. its mostly personal preference but i do love my 500.
