Mossberg 935 ?s

I am thinking of getting a mossberg 935 magnum turkey and had a few questions for anyone who is familiar with these guns.
1)are they reliable? (i have had bad expiriences with other auto loaders jamming or not cycling)
2)will it cycle with 23/4 and 3 in shells or just 31/2s?
3)what would be a reasonable price for a used one in good shape?
4)would it be safe to shoot buckshot through the turkey choke that comes with it or should it be changed to a less full choke?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Choke Tubes ... 21-22

ACCU-MAGTM CHOKE TUBES
(935TM MODELS ONLY)
ACCU-MAGTM choke tubes are designed for use with Lead, Steel, and other nontoxic
shot. Each durable tube is marked, as a guide, with the type of pattern it
will produce.

TO REMOVE THE CHOKE TUBE: Loosen the choke tube with the choke wrench
provided, by turning it counterclockwise. When the choke tube is loosened,
remove it completely with your fingers. Place the choke tube on a clean, dry surface.

TO INSTALL THE CHOKE TUBE: Screw the tube clockwise into the barrel by
hand and then tighten the choke tube until snug using the choke wrench. Flush
fitting choke tubes fit completely inside the barrel when properly installed. Do not
use excessive force when installing.
Choke tube tightness should be checked periodically.

ITEM # PATTERN* ITEM # PATTERN*
95256 SKEET 95254 FULL
95252 IMPROVED 95255 X-FULL
95253 MODIFIED 95257 ULTI-FULL (LEAD ONLY)
* Lead, steel, and other non-toxic shot patterns will vary substantially depending
on shell length, shot size, brand of ammunition, and the individual barrel. The
shooter is urged to conduct pattern tests before field use.

SLUGS: Overbored 935TM Accu-MagTM barrels are designed for lead,
steel, and other non-toxic shot loads only. We specifically disclaim
any responsibility for damage or injury resulting from firing slugs
(single projectile ammunition) through overbored barrels. Use only
non-overbored 935TM barrels designed specifically for slug shooting.

ACCU-MAGTM ULTI-FULLTM TURKEY TUBE
(935TM MODELS ONLY)
The NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION has determined that the average
distance at which turkeys are most effectively taken, under average environmental
conditions and surroundings, is 30 yards.
Subsequently, Mossberg designed and manufactured this highly specialized
choke tube for #4 or #6 lead shot to yield a high core concentration and high pellet
count in a 20 inch circle at 30 yards. Shot patterns at distances greater than 30
yards will be less dense.
This special purpose “Turkey Tube” is specifically designed for use with Lead shot
loads only.
Do not shoot steel shot through an Ulti-Full turkey tube as it may
result in barrel damage.
Test results with the Ulti-Full™ Turkey Tube are averages and individual shotgun
performance may vary. Mossberg recommends pattern testing with several
brands of ammunition at various distances to familiarize yourself with your
shotgun’s performance.

Mossberg 935

I have the grand slam model and also a waterfowl model. Both are great but regular cleaning is a requirement.I got the waterfowl model in a trade and it would not fire! All it needed was a good cleaning. When people use rem-oil sometimes residue will collect on the wet surface. So be sure to use a dry lube around the bolt/gas areas of the shotgun. Both guns have excellent patterns and are reliable.

Having feeding problems with my 935. Do you do anything special to clean it. Gunsmith keeps telling me its only dirty (he hasn't even looked at the gun)

The 935 is a decent gun I used to have a turkey model 935 but I switched back to a 10 guage browning bps and a remington sp-10 with thumbhole stock the turkey model. A new 935 is fairly reasonable here is one with a red dot scope on it. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=165697080. You may also want to check out the 10 ga shotguns as well

this link is for a browning bps 10 ga NWTF Model on Gunbroker this gun will not recoil that bad it is just a myth I personally own a browning bps 10 ga as I have mentioned and I am only 5'8" and 170 lbs and I can easily shoot this gun.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=166284135.

In my opinion the browning would be the way to go. But this is just my personal opinion.

here is a link to a browning gold 10 ga nwtf gun

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=166281241

this is the remington sp-10 like I have the recoil is minimal

If price is a concern the bps is a great choice if not the sp-10 o the browning gold would be a good choice as well.

good luck and remember that this was only my personal opinion.

I have the 930, not the 935, the gas systems are identical though.

The most important thing to do is tear it down and clean everything completely with either Gun Scrubber, Brake Cleaner, or some other type of quality de-greaser... Mossberg uses some sort of packing oil that once it heats up it gets "gummy".... When you reassemble, use a good quality gun oil, Rem-Oil, Hoppes, or similar. Just a light coat and then wipe it down to remove the excess...

As far as 2-3/4 oz loads, the reason that the 935 doesn't shoot them as well as the 930 does is because of the overbored barrel (the smaller diameter barrel on the 930 allows more dwell time for pressures to build up and then get used to cycle the gun). Try shooting 2-3/4" rounds that are at least 1-1/8 oz and at least 1250 fps velocity and you shouldn't have any troubles.

I wouldn't spend more than $300 for a used one, Dick's sporting goods regularly runs $399 specials on the black ones...

As long as the buckshot is LEAD you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck and keep us posted.
