Mossberg 930SPX....opinions?

I'm a tactical kind of guy, with my firearms experience primarily being from my military and LE background. I have some decent shotgun experience, but almost entirely with pump shotguns. I don't hunt or trap/skeet shoot. I see the shotgun as a tactical tool of the trade and my primary uses are for work/duty, training, and action shooting matches (another form of training for me).

I've been considering a semi-auto shotgun for a while and I'm heavily leaning towards the Mossberg 930 SPX, due to its controls being similar to both my duty-issued and personally owned 14" Mossy 590A1s for familiarity and consistency in training. I've handled the 930 in gun stores and I like its weight and feel. It is also reasonably priced.

If anyone has any opinions on the 930 or 930 SPX, based upon owning and/or having actually used one, I'm looking for your feedback. If you could also include any accessories or modifications you think may improve the standard weapon, please add these comments as well.

Thanks!

Andy

I've had one for less than a year and love it. No issues with at least half a dozen different loads, all 2¾". The stock is also adjustable; I dropped mine a bit to make it perfect for me.

I wanted one, but the reviews were not so great. Problems were present. I saw it first hand when one buyer was returning his at a local gun shop. I read a review in a popular Gun Test magazine where the CZ model 712 Utility was favored. That's the one I bought- no regrets. True the CZ does not have the looks of the tactical style. It just works.

Sights way too high to get anything but a "chin," not a cheek, weld and they are not as reliable as a pump and particulalrly need to be cleaned very well outta the box and kept clean not to fail.

A instructor put 700 rounds downrange before cleaning, and the 930 SPX kept on running even when a Benelli did not. They seem to be good shotguns. I'm planning on picking one up.

My 930SPX has been totally reliable. I have shot 2 3/4
elcheapo target loads up to 3 inch 000 buck, all without
a problem. I cleaned it when new out of the box and have
put 300 rounds though it since, without another cleaning.
It will replace my Model 500 after about 200 more rounds
of testing, for home and bear defense.:D

I gave mine (standard 930, not the SPX) a good cleaning out of the box and promptly started duck hunting with it. After a few months in the snow, ice, saltwater, mud and sand of Kodiak without any more than a quick wipe-down and boresnake, it still functioned reliably.

Come to think of it, I don't think I ever had any failures with that gun... And it cycled smoother and had less felt recoil than the SBE II.

Awesome gun

I have a 930 SPX and I have to say it is absolutely awesome. I've been to the range 3 times with it now and it's been flawless. Everyone who shoots it wants one and the ghost ring is great for slugs. My target was one baseball sized hole in the center after a few mags of slugs at 25 yards.

930

I've had my 930spx for almost a year. Good solid shotgun for the price, so far no feeding issues, it's fed bird shot, slugs and buck shot flawlessly. I've read only scant reports of feeding issues with lighter loads. For the most part the reports i have seen have been overwhelmingly positive.
