mossberg 930 vs remington 11-87/1100

I keep hearing over and over again that the mossberg 930 is a better gun than the remington 11-87/1100, If this is true why?

Is it the craftsmanship or the design?

Do you have to replace rings in the 930 like you do in the remingtons?

I've never shot a Remington, so can't make the comparison to an 1100 or 11-87. I do own a Mossberg 930 and a Browning Gold. The gas systems are remarkably similar between the two. There are no rings to replace on my Mossberg. Some versions may have them as the owners manual does list an o-ring as a part, but notes that it is not installed on all models. The craftsmanship on the Mossberg is maybe 3.5 out of 5 stars. There are some tool marks, but they don't seem to affect the performance of the gun. The bluing is not as well done as the Browning, but I didn't pay as much either. I can say that the Mossberg has reliably cycled anything I put through it so far. When I pull the trigger, it goes bang. And sometimes a clay turns to dust :D I suspect most Remington owners will likely report the same thing.

I had an 11-87 that I sold for a Moss 930 field deer.
1. Remington overcharges for every last accessory
2. The ergonomics of the 930 are ambidextrous and easier to work than the 11-87

It was ano brainer for me. I enjoyed the 11-87 while i had it but I am very happy to have made the trade.

what designs are incorporated into an mossberg 930 that makes many people think it is more reliable than a remington 1100/1187?

both are good guns. They will both do the job just fine, I personally like remingtons better but it is like chevy or ford.

Just my honest opinion

The 1100/11-87's were great guns in their day. The 930 basically copies the Remington at a reduced price. Benelli, Beretta, Browning, and Winchester have been making advancements and are building better guns than either. If you want a top tier gun buy one of those instead of the Remington. If you are looking at a budget gun consider the Franchi or Stoeger instead of the Mossberg.
