Mossberg 835 jamming?

I'm in the market for a 12g, and was looking at 835's. My cousin has one but warned me about them jamming. He said that about every third time he goes out the thing jams. My friend has one too, and same problem. They go to rack a shell, it ejects, but it won't cycle a new shell. Is this common? Both guys take good care of their guns, so that's not an issue. I like the 835, but am leery after hearing these problems. Does this happen to anybody else?

Thanks,
Lee

While I'm not a Mossburg fan, that is the first time I've heard of a jamming problem. Perhaps the 2 & 3/4 shells hang up ?

Is it dirty? On the 500 and the 835 (which is really a 500) the shell elevator can bind up due to being dirty. Clean it. Is should solve the problem.
I have a 20 ga that was given to me as a teen. I finally cleaned it 3 years ago after it started hanging up the same way you described it.

Alternative

I saw a Russian Baikal M133 at Gander Mountain on sale for $179.

I can take 3 1/2" shells interchangably with others. The wood is walnut darkly stained. The pressed checkering won't win a prize.

I don't think it comes in camo. It is an alternative to the Mossberg 835.

Check it out on EEA website.--http://www.eaacorp.com/flash/high.html

In the 10 years that I have owned a 835 Mossy, I have NEVER had any malfunctions.
Is he using 3.5" shells?
I would say at leats in my experience, no, this is not common.

I haved owned an 835 for 4 years and have had two problems.

It has failed to cycle after shooting 3" magnum buckshot. For some reason, after a shot of that hard-recoiling stuff I have to jiggle the slide around to get it to pump.

The other problem is failure to eject one type of ammo--I believe it was Remington. The fired hull sticks in the chamber pretty well and the extrator skips off without removing the hull from the chamber.
