Mossberg 800A .308

I have had this BA rifle for 5 or 6 years, picked it up used with a nice scope and it has dropped 30-40 whitetails for me over that time. I was wondering if anybody makes stocks for this thing, the original wood is pretty beat up and I was thinking about a polymer stock since it gets quite a bit of abuse. Any ideas? Is the action dimensionally the same as some other more common rifles that I could drop the Mossberg into a Remington stock for example? I haven't had any luck on the interweb, I was hoping somebody here could point me in the right direction.
 
Buzz: I believe the 800 Mossberg was a 98 Mauser action, and any of the commercial 98 stocks should work. The bottom metal will be the biggest fitting problem as far as a drop in fit.

That's a negative. It's a unique action. Same goes for the Mossberg 810, which is unique, as well; not just a modified 800. (I have an 810BSM in .243 Win.)

I almost ordered a stock a while back for my rifle. I'll dig around and repost here if I find the website listing the proper inlet.

A polymer stock might be hard to find, but these places have on hand; or can make a wood replacement stock for you:

Franken: I remember it being a Mauser action, but wasn't 100% sure about it being a 98. Appreciate you letting us know what you find out.



It wouldn't be a M-66 would it?

No. The 800 and 810 were unique actions. They may have taken design elements from other actions, but were different enough to require their own inlet. (Or just order a blank and have a gunsmith inlet it.)

It is actually a Weatherby action and a superb straight shooting gun, you can always check with the Mossberg Collectors Association to find out more about a specific model.
 
The 800 is NOT a Weatherby action.
The only similarity there is between a Weatherby and the 800 is the bolt lug arrangement.

The Mossberg 800 was designed by Louis Seecamp (ring a bell? ;)), and is/was an original design.

The 810 was the product of a different designer (commissioned by Mossberg, and based only slightly on the 800), and is also NOT a Weatherby.


I know everyone likes to assume every rifle design is based on something else, but, sometimes, you have to give credit where it is due.

Mossberg

I have owned a few of the Mossberg 800-810 rifles over the years . They have all been shooters , with a little tinkering ( glass bedding) . the 810s have a nice easily adjustable trigger . They are good solid rifles , but won't win any beauty contests , I really like the safety on them too .
