Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 LR

I've never thought of the 10/22 as "fancy" but compared to the 702 I guess it is.
From what I've read the 702 seems to function reasonably well although longevity could be a concern.
I can say from handling them they appear very cheaply built but this doesn't always equal poor performance.
They're cheap enough to throw the dice and see if you'd come up a winner.
Why not?

How cheap are they and/or how little can you afford ? Dick's has Remington 597 combos ( with scope ) for like $199.99 - I love mine although I've dropped money into it , but also I got a bolt action Savage Mark II combo for $150 on sale , Reg $200 , thAt shoots through the same hole at 25 yds and came with a Very very serviceable dare I say awesome Bushnell rimfire 3-9x40 scope. Both of those , will be with me forever and you cannot beat the value for dollar n

I'm fussy on scopes so I have never bought any combo guns. Rather have the fun of picking out the scope and mounting my own choice. I want a semi-auto also for just plinking around.

I couldn't find any good prices on Remingtons and if I'm going over $200 I'll get a 10/22.

Mine has several thousand rounds through it,,,

Probably somewhere in the order of 5-6 thousand rounds through it.

I'm old fashioned and really prefer a single-shot .22 rifle,,,
But I did want one .22 semi-auto to play with.

My friends all have semi's and I wanted to be able to play in their reindeer games,,,
For a $109.95 rifle (2 years ago at Wally World),,,
Mine has been very reliable,,,
And accurate.

I'm no Ricochet Rabbit but I shoot just as well with my Plinkster,,,
As my friends do with their tricked out 10/22's.

A few months ago American Rifleman magazine did an article on the new breed of "Tactical" .22 rifles,,,
I found it very interesting that they gave the Mossberg rifle a some what low review,,,
Even though they couldn't show a flaw in it's performance or accuracy.

Yeah, it's a South American import,,,
But as long as it continues to work well,,,
I'll continue to be a happy 702 Plinkster owner.

On a side note,,,
My friend bought his son the bolt action version,,,
With an el cheapo 4 power scope he consistently pops tin cans at 100 yards.

I have a Stoeger Condor 12 ga. O/U made in Brazil. It blows away all the other low priced O/U's coming out. It almost seems like a REAL O/U!! :D
