Any ideas on how to mount a modern scope on this old rifle? The split receiver makes eye relief adjustment nearly impossible. Are there any tricks of the trade for this one? Rails? Adaptors? Mounts? Or your thoughts.

The grooved receiver on the right side has limited travel, making movement of the scope rearward for proper eye relief only possible by moving the scope rearward in the rings. This is no where near enough movement for sight picture.

Thanks for any help, guys.

Mossberg

Dear Sir:
Welcome to the forum.
That Mossberg is the most accurate 22 mag. I ever shot! Fine little rifle.
If your reciever top is grooved for tip off mounts it has the problem as all Mossbergs - the modern compact scopes do not fit well. All my old Mossbergs have the long small tubed scopes. They're old but shoot well. Another thing you could do (I hate to) is drill and tap for the N2 or N3 Weaver side mount. That solves the problem - probably hard to find now!

Thanks for Responding to My Problem

Harry, thanks for responding to my problem. As this rifle is like new, drilling and tapping it is not an option for me. I think the best thing to do would be to sell it and start over. I kind of liked the old-timey 1950-60s plain-Jane but honest look of it. So it goes.

Dear Sir:
If you can financially, I'd keep it. But I understand.
The Marlin 22 maggies shoot very well - I'd remove the front sight - guys tell me they shoot beter that way??????????
