This is my first post here!

I have just started to get interested in shotguns and have been out and about getting some. I have recently picked up a Mossberg/S&W/Howa Model 3000 and have a Remington 870 Tactical on layaway.

I just picked up this brand new Mossberg 590DA1 today. I saw a 590A1 SPX with the bayonet and ported barrel, sights, etc. but it was at a low $600. This one was just $300 at another store. The double action is pretty neat IMO and it's a little shorter. This one seems to be all parked or a parkerized type finish while the SPX didn't.

Here are the pics and please comment. Any knowledge with this shotgun would be appreciated.

How is the double action utilized and what is its intended use? Please enlighten me as I am unfamiliar with this weapon. Is it possible to de-cock it? If so, how?

Upon study of the online manual it appears to differ in that the gun is not cocked when the action is cycled.

It fires as a long pull revolver. Possibly a safer action for those of us that would prefer to keep the gun loaded "fully hot" with a full tube and one in the pipe... I may have just found another rattling mossberg to buy further setting back any plans at ye' ol' hogdogs aquiring a "fine gentleman's firearm"...

My gun shop told me they didn't have any 590 Special Purposes (50665) in stock but that they could get me one...

Might have to track one down if they discontinued this model,I like it.
Just found a SPX at dicks so am content for now...:D

Enjoy that 590 ..;)

The OP's shotgun looks similar to the 590A1 (item# 51411) listed on the Mossberg website. I saw one the other day, but I didnt look closely enough to see what was stamped on the receiver. Now Im curious to go back for a second look.

Visually, you can see the difference between the DA1 and A1 by the thicker trigger guard, bigger trigger, and how far forward the trigger sits due to having the longer pull.

Also, note the set screw at the rear of the trigger guard. Do the A1 trigger assemblies have that also?

590 a1

Interesting, I had no idea that feature was available. I have a 590a1 and love it. Not sure I would like the double action feature. I guess getting used to it would be all it took. I have several DA pistols. Why not a shotgun??
What is the trigger pull like????

Trigger pull is like a revolver, or any double action. Although the hammer is partially cocked when you rack the gun, it's not like a Glock. I haven't shot it yet.
