Mossberg 590

Okay.....I know I posted about getting a Maverick or NEF PP, but I believe I found a good deal on a Mossberg 590, for $410 after taxes, at one of my local shops. I really was another Mossberg so bad I can taste it. I have researched the 590 a little, but can anyone elaborate for me about its reliability, etc?

i have a nine shot 590. out of the box, it was smooth as silk. i love it. eats anything i feed it. my only complaint is the composite trigger housing. it hasn't failed or anything, i just like metal better. great gun.

my first shotgun was a mossberg 20, that i got 25 years ago. i can't count how many rounds it has through it. i suspect it will still run long after i'm dead. my second shotgun was a mossberg 12 that was my fathers. it has twice as many rounds through it as my 20. it's still my rabbit gun. you can't kill them.

For that price i would hope its a 590a1 model. If so and new i would jump on that, i paid 550 out the door for mine, its a gun you can depend your life on

It's a great gun. My two complaints are the same as Manos - composite safety and trigger guard. The safety is a $15 upgrade (albeit a PITA to install - the "safety screw" sucks to remove) and a metal trigger housing is $90. If you like ambi guns, Mossberg is the only way to go. The Remington 870 is obviously the other big contender worth looking at, but if you have a deal on the Mossberg I'd snatch it up.

I would take the 590a1 over any variation of the 870, moss's eject shells much cleaner and i like the feel better. search around for the parts to upgrade they cant be to much.

I had a 590 with GRS and it was a nice gun but you could get two Pardner Protectors for that price. If anything I think the Pardner is the more reliable gun having owned both. I would get the Pardner and get a reloading press with the extra $$$ or a bunch of ammunition.

I am honestly a Remington 870 guy. My reasoning is just personal preference not the quality of the Mossberg's. The Mossberg 590 is a great reliable rugged gun that you would not be disappointed with.

Dealer cost on the 590A1 models starts at about $350 for the 590A1 Tactical like this, and then goes up as you add more bells and whistles. Does the 590 you're looking at have a plain stock, speedfeed stock, ghost ring sights, etc?

I had a 590 a few years ago. Didn't put anywhere near as many shells through it as noyes did, but mine was reliable.
