Mossberg 590 magazine issue

So, I recently got my Mossbrg 590 back from Mossberg after having a problem with the reciever. Turn around was great, evn if contact between myself and Mossberg was a little spotty.

However, it seems that the magazine tube is only accepting seven instead of the capacity eight 2 3/4 shells. You can almost make the eighth shell fit in the tube, but when you rack the slide, it just flops out the bottom without gettings picked up by the loading gate. I pulled the spring out and it looks fine. Anything I can do short of sending it to mossberg again?

The thing I would check is take the barrel nut off and check out the spring retainer in the mag tube. Perhaps when they changed the receiver, they threaded it in a touch too far? I'm not sure how deep the threads go, but could be a possibility...

What was the original receiver problem for which it was sent to Mossberg? That might indicate to a Mossberg guy the possible cause of the current problem. If it was me, I would at least call Mossberg to register this problem in case it does need to go back and see if they will authorize taking it to a local repair shop.

The original problem was that due my own stupidity, I lost the reciver in the process of disassembling the gun and had to send it back to Mossberg for replacement.

last two beat me to it though those remington shells should be fitting.

some shells are a tad bit longer some have a roll crimp with cardboard of plastic block.

I have always had this issue w/my mossberg when I barely fit the last one in tube

I get 7 in the tube and one in the chamber but I use 3" 00buck (winchester and/or federal)

I choose to only do six in the tube. I have the same issue as you with the last one feeding if I do seven. the main reason why I do six in the tube was I figured pushing it wasn't the way to go. I don't keep one in the chamber either.

Well, it appears that I can get bulk back Winchester un-plated 00 Buck shells in the gun to capacity, and Federal bulk pack #8 and #7 1/2 up to capacity as well.

My question now is what the heck is up with shell size differences? Isn't 2 3/4 supposed 2 3/4 standard?

I didn't think buying shotgun shells was supposed to be like buying pants.

there are new types out there now I think too...like two kinds of 3" 00bucks one at a slightly higher price...not sure if that has something to do w/it. I think winchester has the same thing going on but I could be wrong.

2.75" S&B 00B only fits 7 in a 590.

Get a ruler and check. When I did, I saw that the shells are less than 2.75" unfired, and closer to 2.75" when fired. The type of crimp determines the final length.

We are talking about mass produced ammo here. The only way to be sure your going to get the same size and load is make your own!;)
