Mossberg 500

I went hunting with my newly purchased, used Mossberg 500 20 gauge pump.
After about a half a box of shells. I fired, pumped it and noticed a spent shell hanging out. I took it out and it would chamber a round. There is a live round sort of cockeyed in it and it is jambed. I can't figure out how to remove it and does this mean there is a problem with the gun? Hope someone can help.

Are you sure you are "cycling the action with authority"...

Don't try to be gentle when you cycle a pump gun as it invites hung shells and more problems.

I had a similar problem w/ mine. Used gun, not cycling correctly (dropping shells out the bottom) etc. I emailed Mossberg, explaining the problem in detail. A while later I got a reply from the guys at Maverick and they're sending the parts I need. Give it a try.

Actually I don't think I did cycle it with authority. I forgot to pump it after I hit a pheasant, then we moved to a new location, I had another shot practically overhead, pulled the trigger, nothing. Then I pumped it but not well cause I was so frustrated and not being ready and not real sure what was wrong. I'll try and do better next time. Thanks for the help.

I have the same gun. You dont need to put any emphasis on pumping it, just dont try to be gentle with it whatsoever. You can't pump it hard enough to hurt anything.
