Mossberg 500

Hey guys, I recently purchased a mossberg 500 in 12 gauge, new in box with 2 barrels for $200. I thought this was a great deal and jumped on it. I know its not a Remington. Does anyone have experience with mossberg, good or bad?

There's nothing wrong with the Mossberg 500 except for having to remove the magazine tube from the receiver to pull maintenance on the magazine (a relatively frequent source of troubles on pumpguns). Mossberg cured that with the 590, it has a removeable magazine cap so the magazine tube can be cleaned straight through with much less trouble. Note the "relatively frequent" there, most new pumpguns don't have problems of any kind for years and years.

Chances are good it won't cause you any trouble unless you really get down'n'dirty with the gun, under normal use it should be OK. Given proper care and maintenance and usual levels of use the gun should still be working when you're taking your dirt nap. But if you plan on shooting 10,000 rounds a year at skeet or trap then you would likely want to get an 870... .

The combo package is a good deal, it gives you essentially everything you need at the same time as far as hardware is concerned. Just take your time learning the gun and be careful...

have the same setup one slug barrel and one normal barrel. Great cheap gun and it shoots fine. good as a truck gun as well. Have shot about 200 rounds through mine with zero problems.

I have one, short barrel. I take it out to the trap and skeet range, and do better than people who bought two thousand dollar trap and skeet guns.

Congratulations...that was a very good deal as far as I am concerned. I have 500s and 590a1s and love em. I prefer the safety, action release and skeletonized shell lifter on the mossberg to that of competitors. They are very dependable guns and I carry one daily on duty. Other than the older style plastic safety breaking after long and hard use (easily replaced by the way), I really don't think there are any major negatives about the mossberg. Enjoy.

Don't Be Sorry

You got a great deal!

Does your gun say Maverick on it? Either way, it's a great deal. Dependable. I love the safety on the Mossberg, versus the Remmy. Nothing bad to say about the Remmy, thousands of police officers around the country can't be wrong! :D
Just personal preference.

My Mossy 500 has been upgraded with a Knoxx SpecOps stock and a 6-round box mag for faster reloads, and two 6 round mags. It's one of my home defense guns around the house.

they are great guns. with slugs in the 18 inch barrel I regularly put groups of 5 slugs touching each other at 25 yards.

My buddy who has a heavier wooden stock 870 says mine kicks like a mule, I don't think so....
