Mossberg 500 ?

FLA2760

Hi
I have a Mossberg 500 that I bought new in 1983. Someone told me that the pistol grip is not legal. The gun is just under 30 inches. Is this illegal? do I have to buy an aftermarket stock? I live in FL. Thank you.

Stock doesn't really have much to do with it...Just make sure your barrel (i'd measure from outside the reciever just to be safe) is atleast 15 inches... If I'm wrong someone please correct me on this but I'm pretty sure that's it...

The barrel is measured from the front bolt face to the front barrel edge, from inside the barrel and must measure 18". The overall length is 26" minimum. If it's shorter you must pay the tax and register it with BATF.

Nothing has changed in regard to domestic, non-semiauto, i.e. pump shotguns since 1983 so if your gun is in facotry configuration it should be A OK legal, if it's ben modified then as others have provided there are some diminshions you want to be dang shure it meets --- leave a 1/2 inch for good mesure

I dont know the law where u live, I could be wrong but just about 47 states its legal to have a pistol grip shotgun as described above no shotgun can have a barrel less than 18 inches it doesnt matter the over all length of the gun as long as it has an 18 inch barrel. I know for a fact though from florida to nevada its legal to have a folding stock on a pump shotgun which most sothern states have pretty leanient laws on shotguns even during the AWB.

According to the ATF, it's 18 inch barrel, 26 inches overall. I'm not sure what your state has to say about things. In Wisconsin, It's legal. I've got a pistol grip on mine, and with the stock removed, it's still under 26 inches overall. Check your state laws. I just saw u live in Florida, They're pretty gun friendly, I'll bet $5 that ur good to go.

Barrel must have a minimum length of 18" on a shotgun and 16" on a rifle and both must have an overall length of 26" minimum

Someone told you wrong. You are legal. For a shotgun, federal law mandates an 18 inch minimum on the barrel, 26 inches on overall length.
