Mossberg 500 vs. Maverick 88

Are these two shotguns in 12 gauge identical??

If not what are the differences? Is the warranty the same?

Local gun shop says they are the same gun in every size, shape and way with a less expensive price tag on the Maverick.

Thanx for your responses

i think the main difference is cheap labor, and cheaper manufacturing processes for some of the parts. i have a maverick and it works great! now if could just get this darned trigger group back together.

but as i have it apart in front of me right now...it is a very solid design and the only flaws i see are cosmetic...aka bad finishes on the internals...but that wont affect function. there are no parts that look like they will break to me.

Two main differences with the Maverick 88 that I remember.
1.) The Maverick has a model 870 style safety in the trigger guard instead of the Mossberg tang mounted safety.
2.) The Maverick has a single action bar, instead of the dual bar of the Mossberg (action bars are the bars that allow the pump to move the bolt).

A Maverick is the only pump action shotgun that I've ever seen jam. The single action bar hopped the bolt and locked up somehow inside the receiver.

yes, i think 500, and some 590 stuff will work on them...including barrels, just make sure your magzine tube is the right size for some of the addon barrels. 5 or 8rnd
