mossberg 500 tac hop ups

greetings from the california mountains!
i bought a mossberg 500 tactical from a local sporting goods store. my first gun BTW. ive shot several .22 rifles, 9mm,380 and 22 handguns. the only shoty ive gotten to fire was a saiga 12. anyhow, i get to pick it up dec. 31st. it will be used for HD and shooting targets in the yard. my question.... what hop ups should i buy first? upgrades in order of importance? i wanted to get this "fore grip,laser,light," combo deal on amazon, but only because it looked cool. opinions? thanks guys!
 
Hop Ups?

Get the shotgun and use it, get comfortable with it, know it well. Then think about "hop ups". I think you'll find many of them unnecessary, ok they look cool, but there mostly heavy and useless, unless of course your on a swat team or something were clearing rooms is a regular event.

When did airsoft lingo make its way to real firearms? Hop up? Haha.

In all seriousness though, I agree with NewPollution in that you can do without the tacticool stuff for a while. Put lots of rds through it, strip it so much you can do it with your eyes closed, see what shoots well through it, and pattern different ammo.

Instead of wasting your money on some stupid muzzle break or heat shield, you should put that money towards a tactical shotgun class or classes and REALLY learn how to use your shotgun in a room-clearing situation.
 
thanks for the opinions guys. i didnt mean hop ups in the tradition sense i guess, i just mean anything that is usually immediately upgraded on this gun. where can i get in on some of these classes? thanks again!
 
Check local ranges. pretty much all ranges have some sort of course you can take. whether its a basic lesson or and advanced close quarters class, you just have to look around and talk to people.


I highly recommend you just buy ammo and learn to shoot it the way it is. skeet shoot really improves your skills. you dont need to pay to go to a club, just have someone throw them for you with one of those cheap plastic flinger things. Or be really cheap like me and thow them your self. i can throw three clays myself by hand and shoot them with my mossberg 500. The only up grade i might recommend is a true glow sight or something like it. I don't even have one of those.

My mossberg 500 is completely stock yet i can out shoot people with very fancy and very nice O/U and beautifully engraved semi's. its just practice. practice practice practice, and when your done practice some more.
 
I received my Mossy 500 as a gift from my wife for our 40th anniversary. Not sure exactly where she got it, but it came with an 18" barrel with heat shield, a pistol grip, and was set up for 7 in the tube + one in the chamber. All I've gotten for it is a folding stock. I've shot it a lot and love it! :D
 
again, thanks for all the help. ill start asking around about classes. mine is the tactical, model 50420. 18.5" barrel. can i even shoot clays? i bought 100 shells of 7.50 shot. what other types should i get? box of each? BPS was a little expensive for the shells, aside from reloading them, wheres a cheap place to get ammo? thanks guys!

Hop up. 590 barrel with accu choke . I thing Mossberg makes a 18.5" barrel with accu choke for the 500. The other is the boys gun.

With the stock barrel , you just have to be faster . Hit them before they get to far out.
Try #6 shot for clays

KX, The photo plainly shows a 590 barrel with a choke tube installed... reckon they got them now...

I've tried all the "tactical hop ups" myself on my 500. I ended up going back the original wood but cut about 2 inches off the stock so it fit me a little better. If I would have just done this in the beginning I'd have saved ALOT more money for ammo. Here's how my 500 currently sits and will remain.
