Mossberg 500 Shotgun with Red Dot scope

I put a cheap Tasko Red Dot Shotgun scope on my 18.5 inch Mossberg 500. Today was first time I tried it. It was such a blast, I was able to dial-in the red dot right where I wanted it and shoot paper targets with Remington reduced recoil slugs out of it accurately up to 50 yards. Its kinda of funny because people that I talked to about doing this were telling me I would have troubles with the scope becoming loose and having to lose zero after just a few shots. Well that never happened, after 25 slugs the gun and scope work just fine. I can't wait to get back at it. Has anyone else tried this before?

now that i think about it i was thinking of doing that to mine as well.

I have had my Mossberg 500 broke down for days waiting on a new spring for the magazine tube to come in the mail but because i was bored i thought i would do a new paint job on it meant to make it look like a diamond back snake but it turned out more like a lizard not sure if i like it or not but i do like fooling with it and don't mind repainting it,... i got plenty of time and paint!

I will post pic as soon as i get it back together for opinions!! maybe stick my burska red-dot on it too!!!!

Sorry Scott, its hard to keep a clean house with two little ones and two dogs always running around, but with that said next time I will make the bed. When my wife and I clean they come along behinde and distroy it again. Glad ya like the gun. It was my first forray into gunsmithing / moddifying.

I just purchased a BushnellTrophy TRS-25 ($80 on sale) to replace a Barska ($50) that was on my 870, never a problem until I dropped it. The red dots do make it more fun to shoot.:D

Sights

I have shot a Tru-Glo red dot off a pump 12 Ga. After a few hundard rounds. I was shoting Dixie Tri-Ball (3"), around 2 1/2 oz load at 1075 fps. These things will distroy any sights. I now have a Burris III, and only shot low recoil. HD pumps shot low recoil best, and when used Red Dot sights are the best. Use auto's for higher recoil loads, or duck guns that are made for the higher loads. Enjoy your gun, it's a good one.

Do the three gun competitors use red dots on their shotguns?
They don't on the 3 Gun Nation matches.
Is it something in the rules or don't the red dots stand up to the punishment?
