I finally got around to takeing that used 500 I bought earlier this month to the range.and I'm very very happy with it!! No jams, lock ups, misfires, failures of any kind.

I put a box and a half of my usual Remington STS Light Target into it test it out, and then put a handful of 00BKs and rifled Slugs through it. it was actually a very smooth shoot, put it was a bit slower to cycle than my usual Winchesters but we all know why.

I'll let the pictures explain:

Congrats...Although Im personally a fan of the 590, the 500 should make for a fine HD weapon.

People need to keep in mind that not everyone who owns a shotgun is interested in spending all day shooting at skeet, birds, or whatever. ;)

Now start firing different buck through it and patterning it out. Find the shot that keeps the tightest pattern, and there's your HD load.

Sounds as though your happy with your new purchase. Being a HD weapon, hope you never have to use it in a negative way. Keep in practice. Congrats!

I wish I could find an indoor range in the Houston area that allows shotguns. I have the Persuader and haven't had any luck finding a place to shoot anything other than slugs on an outdoor range. I haven't fired anything other than slugs, so I have no idea what the pattern looks like with different loads. Trying to shoot skeet with the short barrel wouldn't be much fun.

I doubt hes looking to shoot clay with it...

Anyway, nice shotgun. I was gonna get the 500 but decided on the 88. About how many yards were the targets at?

The Mossberg 500 will be a fine HD weapon. We got 3 in our arms room here on Camp Victory, Iraq (marked 500MILS on the bottom)!
