Mossberg 500 problem

I have a Mossberg 500 that is old but nearly new (was in storage for years) and has hardly been fired. I went through it and cleaned and oiled it before heading out. First couple of trips out it worked perfectly. I have now shot about 8 to 10 boxes of shells with it. The last time out, it started failing to fire the last shell. All the other rounds fired perfectly first time every time. The last shell fails every time now. Doesn't matter if you start with 2 rounds or 5, its always the last round and only the last round. 3 people shot it, all had the same results.
anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

Just to make things clear for the old, slow folks...

The gun properly chambers the last round, the hammer falls, but the round fails to fire- is that the situation? Is the primer dented at all?

Yeah, we're missing a little data here. I'm wondering if the spring in the mag tube is weak, but you haven't told us if that last round is even making it into chamber...

round chambers. I honestly didn't check for a primer dent but I think it probably did not because I stacked the round back in and it fired just fine if it is one of the first 4 rounds (still at least one in the tube). It's only the last round and always the last round. It goes up in the chamber. just doesn't fire. Also, if it was hitting enough to dent it, I would think that it would fire that last round at least some of the time, but it consistently does not fire that last one.
Also, I did try pumping that last round easy and slamming it and various in between but that did not make a difference.

Next time you're out at the range with the gun, try loading a round directly into the ejection port (with no rounds in the magazine) and closing the bolt on it. Then see if it will fire under those circumstances.

What you are describing so far sounds like some kind of high weirdness that may be a real bear to figure out...

Remove barrel and clean chamber, especially front area where rim headspaces.
Then clean any crud from receiver where barrel fits when reassembled. Be certain that nut attaching barrel to magazine tube is screwed down as far as it will go with hand tightening. Avoid using a tool to do this.

Storage may have caused oil to harden and gum up firing pin and its spring, which would cause weaker strikes on primer. While you are tinkering, check the ejector screw for looseness and snug it up(not related to problem).
