Mossberg 500 & Mossberg Maverick Compatibility???

My brother is looking at buying a Mossberg made Maverick 88 Security 8 shot shotgun. We're wondering if the accessories (such as stocks, forend grips, ect.) you can put on a 500 can be used on the Maverick 88.

I've also heard that the forend is very difficult to take off, because it's connected to the metal arms it attaches to.
 
All the newer Mavericks come through with the action bars connected to the forend grip. The only way to change it is to get a Mossberg setup. I saw them sold new in one of the gunsmith catalogs the other day, but I don't remember which one. Remember, the 8 shot has the barrel lug forward of the normal position, so you can't interchange barrels.
