Mossberg 500 issue

this was taken after ejecting a shell and trying to ram another one home. it shouldve been in the chamber with the action closed...if that makes sense. sometimes it takes 6-7 good hard racks to chamber a round. I don't feel like the shell latch is bent, but the edge of it feels like it may be rough/need to be sanded. It seems too minor to be causing this kind of an issue. I did smoothe out some rough areas with high grit sand paper yesterday, but it's not like i railed on anything..it was all pretty light. i never really function tested it with shells before i did that anyway. The feeding issue is so bad right now sometimes I'll have to pump it (i rack with AUTHORITY too) 6-7 times before I hear and feel it feed. one thing i can say about the gun is its already the smoothest mossberg ive ever used from the stuff ive done to it, but the issue needs to be corrected. i dropped the cartidge stop and interruptor from my 590 mariner in and it worked fine.,,

I would suggest that you dissassemble the gun and remove that piece of steel that is under your cartridge stop.

That clearly does not belong there and there is a dissassembly/reassembly video on youtube that will help you to get it straight.

What ever it is under the shell stop doesn't belong there and I believ that is what is causing the gun to malfunction.

Looking at it more closely looks like it may be part of a broken action arm.

very perceptive jlv. thats actually the cartidge stop itself. its jumping the groove for some reason. could be bent? there isnt anything under it, but it is definitely out of place....think it could be bent towards the rear of it, causing the front of it to jump out of ride? it looks worn wear the action bars go into the receiver, but its just wear. that area isn't obstructed. the cartridge stop is definitely jumping it's ride, but WHY it's doing that is what I'm trying to figure out. I guess it's bent...

After looking at it further, I have to agree with you. It clearly has moved out of place in the recess and it appears, if you don't look at it carefully, that it looks like something is under the stop when in fact the stop has jumped out of place. The stop is set in place in the receiver by a round plug attach or milled into the side of the stop. It's possible that it could have sheared off causing it to move forward.

When I put my Mariner's stop in, it seems to do fine, and it doesn't jump the ride...it stays put. It bugs me though because when I examine the the two, I can indeed see a difference in the tabs, but it's really really minor. You wouldn't think that small of a deformity would cause such an issue.

I dont know if i have the right terminology here but the shell latch piece. There should be 2 on each side of the receiver and in the picture yours visible should not be sticking out that far, looks like its blocking the shell from coming out the tube? Take it apart and reassemble.

Its may actually be bent somehow. take it out and compare it side by side to the one in the 590.

EDIT- it cant possiblely be moved back because it has to be up against the shell the way it is, it just needs to fit against the receiver better. It needs to be flush with it and should not protrude towards the right side of the receiver at all. I looked at mine and yours is bent or installed incorrectly. Is it possible you switched with with the 590? maybe its slightly different.

the ones in the 590 are identical I believe, and when I put the 590 part in it works just fine. It's bent or sheared, but like I said...when I compare the two, there is minimal difference. You can see it, but it's terribly minor. I'll try and get a pic up later. They're installed properly.

sorry about the quality of the picture, but it appears yours is no top not underneath like mine is.
