Mossberg 500 issue

I tried out my new moss 500 at the range yesterday and twice, the 2.75 shell got stock between the elevator and the receiver. I know this can't be normal :eek:

The elevator on my winchester defender is long and there is no way that any shell can partially fall trough the elevator. But the mossy's elevator doesn't cover the entire lenght of the opening in the receiver.

what should I do ?
 
I think you're short cycling the slide. Give it a good slam until its broke in or you get a feel for it. I know instantly when i short stroke my 500...
 
i have the same gun and had the same problem when I shot #7 and lighter loads. Try moving up to #8. I 've never had the problem with heavier loads. I don't know if the load was the cause of the problem, but I do know that it fixed the problem.

#7 shot is larger than #8 shot, and neither should affect the function of a pump action shotgun. The elevator on my 870 is full length, and I haven't handled a Mossberg, so I can't comment specifically on the problem. I will say that IMHO it was probably operator error(short stroke) and not an engineering deficiancy. Try to replicate the problem using snap-caps and observing what goes wrong where. This should let you see what's happening and figure out how to fix it.
 
Snap caps, at least my triple K brand plastic caps wouldn't cycle in my 500. They got stuck in the magazine. Be sure you have a 1/4" or 3/8" wooden dowel handy to punch the caps out.

I also have the same weapon, never had any issues with a wide variety of ammo. I would suggest (as above) break in and rack with authority...
 
agreed

pumping that thing should take u less than a second. dont pussyfoot around with it. after the empty is ejected and the new shell is comin on up, if u give it too much time while it is high enough before it starts comin forward she is gonna fall out on ya goo luck to ya:D
