Mossberg 500 dumps last round?

After reading so many posts about how crappy pistol grip shotguns are, I got inspired to take mine out of the closet for the first time in a year. While out shooting the gun dumps the last round on the ground. I will rack the slide, but the shell will remain in the magazine until after the chamber is closed, then the round will pop out onto the ground. I would assume I just need a new magazine follower spring, but the gun is fairly new compared to my Remington 1100 which is like 20 years old and never needed a new spring. Any thoughts on this? Could it be an extractor problem.

Thanks

Sounds like a bent cartridge stop. The cartridge stops are those flat metal pieces that ride on either side of the bolt inside the receiver.

They're easy to check. Fieldstrip the gun and look at the stops. They should be dead flat. There's a hook bent in one end and a hump in the center. On a piece like that it's easy to tell when something's not kosher.

Yes, it was the left cartridge stop if thats what you call it. After replacing the mag spring, the problem persisted so I took a closer look. I noticed that the left cartridge stop would catch on the brass and not go under the lip and push the cartridge into the chamber. The left cartridge stop was flat but the curved portion was too sharp and too long as I noticed all the shells were coming out with full length gouges. I took a dremel to the point and it solved the problem.

Thanks
