I picked up an Mossberg 500 to convert into a home defense gun.
I ordered an 18.5" barrel and a synthetic stock from Brownells. Yesterday, I installed the new forearm and barrel with no problems. I attached the new buttstock and tightend the screw. What I did not realize was that the new buttstock allowed the screw to go father into the receiver than it was meant to. I didn't know this until I went to function test the gun. I put the safety "on" and pulled the trigger and it fired.
I took the gun apart and part of the trigger fell off. It seems the stock screw protruded enough to snap off the tab on the trigger that is engaged by the safety. OOPS!
So, I ordered a new trigger from Brownells. When looking at the trigger assembly, i can see many little parts and springs that will go flying when I try to take it apart! I have a feeling I will end up buying a whole new trigger assembly very soon.
Hey, at least I am learning!
