Mossberg 500 at Dunham's Sports

I got a sale flier and it has this gun in it.
It says it is a "scoped/rifled/cantilevered shotgun combo".
What the heck does all that mean??
Is $289.99 a good price for this "combo"??

That's actually a pretty good price. Best I've ever seen for a regular barrelled 500 was about $219 at Walmart. The difference in price from what Dunham's has and the best Walmart price is $70. It is hard to find a new slug barrel for $70, so I'm saying this is a decent price.

IMHO, that combo is not worth the money... I've heard from a few people (Customers) that cannot get they're scope/mount to hold a zero.

For the price, the 870 combo was a much better deal after $30 Rebate. ($259.99) But, I believe that was a sunday/monday price only.

That was a Sunday/Monday special now it is back to $299. Still a good deal two barrels and a scope. The bird barrel has changeable chokes, not bad.

Don't place any value on that scope. It is junk. If you buy the combo, replace the scope with something that is decent.

FWIW, I bought the 835 Ulti Mag combo in Mossy Oak minus the scope at Cabelas last year for $287 on clearance. I put a Bushnell Banner 2-7x shotgun scope on it. Very accurate.

"scoped/rifled/cantilevered shotgun combo"

Combo in Mossberg-speak means it comes with two barrels.

One of them is rifled and has a cantilevered scope mount, i.e. the mount is on the barrel and is cantilevered over the receiver. It is a specialized barrel for shooting sabot slugs for big game hunting.

The other barrel is probably a smooth bore for for firing shot, likely a 28" vent rib with choke tubes.

Any scope that comes in a manufacturer's package is probably too cheap to consider for serious use.
