Anybody own/shot any of these lever actions from mossberg? They look to be decent rifles but have never shot one or even seen one. Wanting info on these good or bad. Thanks

Just bought one in 30-30 and like it so far. My first in that caliber so gettng used to the trajectory. Sighted in very easily at 100 yrds and am using a Redfield 2-7 scope. Going to use the Hornady 140 grain leverevolutions for hunting with it this year because they say they give a flatter trajectory. Sighted in with Federals so once I hget those may have to readjust.

If you really want to know - copy this into "search" - there's been a lot reported

Mossberg 464 Lever action rifle

I haven't actually shot one, but I have seen them in the gun shop. My impression is that the monkeys that Mossberg is using to fit the stocks to their rifles are slightly better trained than the monkeys that Marlin is currently using. Of course that's not saying much.

For $350 you can't expect anything but monkeys.

This thread caught my eye because I actually handled one of these at Wade's Eastside gunshop in Bellevue, WA yesterday. The wood stock option. It felt fine to me. Light and handy like a 30-30 lever action is supposed to be. I personally own a Marlin 30-30 but I don't see any real quality difference here. I own other Mossberg guns and I have nothing bad to say about them. They're utilitarian, inexpensive and they go bang. And should you ever need them their customer service has always done fine by me (I've never consulted them for anything but accessories and upgrades. Never had a broken Mossberg. I ordered a 28 in barrel for my 500 Persuader. They initially shipped me a barrel for the 6shot model, mine is an 8 shot. They apologized and reshipped the correct barrel with 2day shipping with no additional shipping cost.).

I don't think you'd be disappointed with a Mossberg 464.

I posted this on another forum and the entire thread might be of interest to you -

This has been discussed at length here and on lever gun forums and the conclusion is Mossberg's 464 is junk - many extractor failures in less than six shots (magazine capacity) and some on the first shot and Mossberg's indifference to customer problems. Mossberg isn't new to the lever gun rifle business as is generally believed - they produced some half dozen models in the 1980s - none of which were on the market more than a couple of years. I suspect those were junk also but Mossberg is just taking advantage of the fact most of us don't look things like that up and they have produced shotguns for many years - them not having any concerns for their customers didn't occur to many of us.Here's a small example -

The question in my mind is if there were so many failures of components in the first rounds - did Mossberg ever do any test firing of the 464 rifles and, might the next component to fail be dangerous to the health of the shooter???

I own one in SS, it's a 16+" barrel...

I LOVE it... Now I have only run 50 rounds through her...:D

It's finish is very good and look sharp

I just mounted a silver Burris scope on some see though rings so I have to take her out again soon. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll disagree with OJ's post!!!!! :p

I'm 100% HAPPY with mine!.

Lateck,

I'm with Lateck, I own one in 30-30 and love it. I've put 200+ rounds through it and not a single issue. Can't say the same for my buddy's Marlin 336 which failed to extract 8 of 20 casings on his very first box of ammo.

I'm a levergun fan and own two Marlins and a Winchester. I hope Mossberg gets all the bugs worked out of the 464 and they stay in the levergun market. It gives us fans more choices. Competition is a good thing in the Free Enterprise System. It keeps the manufacturers on their toes.
