mossberg 18.5" barrel and slugs

hi everybody,

I was wondering if the 18.5" smooth bore IC security barrel could be used as a slug barrel with foster type slugs. I want to mount a scope on the mossberg 500 receiver and shoot accurately with foster slugs out to 50-75 yards. Do you think this would work? Or would the 28" VR accu-choke barrel be better? I want to have a small, yet decently accurate set up and hte 18.5" barrel would allow for that.

The 18.5" barrel will work, but if you want accuracy consider a rifled slug barrel with a cantilever scope mount.

Under 100 yards you will have all the accuracy you need for a hunting SD/shotgun. Fosters are a good choice for that because they are designed for smoothbore guns. Brenneke Slugs will work as well at your suggested ranges.

You don't want a rifled barrel unless you are shooting sabot rounds. They give no advantage to slugs.

none of the above

For under 100 yd shooting, I would rather have the ghost ring and high visibility type post. These sights are out there and easily located.

No batteries, no eye relief problems, and all the accuracy you need. Mossberg had some ugly, but very functional peep/post sights on their shotguns over the years and the factory may be an option for sights as well.
