moss 590 question

I'm a little new to shotguns, and I was wondering if the Mossberg 590 could shoot slugs(and if so, is it accurate)? Any other opinions on the gun would be appreciated too. Thanks.

I don't know much about Mossberg shotguns, other than they're supposed to be right up there with Remington in terms of quality and reliability. I do know that if you have a smoothbore shotgun, then you should use rifled slugs, but if you have a rifled barrel, then use sabot slugs.

Yes they can shoot slugs unless you have a super tight choke on. It will shoot best with a looser choke. I had a 590 for a few years and have trialled them for work. I think the 870 is a tad better, but where the Mossburg shines is the location of the safety. IT has a tang safety and is much easier to use with either hand.

The 590 has a fixed cylinder (maybe improved cylinder) so slugs will be fine as ling as they're rifled slugs.

I've not heard of a 590 with a rifled barrel but if such a beast were to exist, you'll want to use sabot slugs.

rifled slugs-smooth bore

sabot slugs-rifled bore

The 590 is an excellent gun, If you are in the market for one you should buy it and have no regrets. It is a very well made and solid firearm. I highly recommend them.
