Moss 500 saftey recoiling into "on" postion

During shooting, noticed the safety on my Mossberg 500 seems to be sliding back a tiny bit with the recoil of the gun engaging the safety after every shot. I tried tightening the screw holding it to the receiver, didn't fix it.

I appreciate the advice. This is one of my primary HD go to guns, I need it to be 100% again.

Thanks in advance.

Good advice guys, I didn't take safety off yet. Ill order metal one from midway and do it in one shot.

Ill post in a week or so after I test newly installed parts.

Thanks again.

There are plates with the holes for the detent ball. If the plates get worn, they will be too free. Usually the mossberg usually has too much "ridge" too the holes making it too stiff foe most folks liking. Folks have angled these holes and some times over did it making it too easy.

As for your issue, my redneck fix would be to just thumb it for forward as I shoot.

My dad's did that last year when we were shooting clays. I stripped it down and took off the safety to get through the day and ordered a new spring, ball like noyes said.

Got it all working great now.

Cost me about $10 to fix it since I did it myself.
