A year ago I posed a question in this thread about the possibility of a 7.62x54r round punching holes in 1/2" AR500 plate at 200 yards after I was accused of ruining the targets at my local gun range. The responses I got were mixed with nothing really proven either way. That's fine with me, because I was just curious, but I recently stumbled upon some tests online that seem to settle the point.
Ammochannel tested the exact ammo and steel in question, and at a much shorter distance (50 yards).
How much did it penetrate? 0.024 inches.
Not a big surprise to most of you, some of you probably couldn't care less, but I thought since I didn't really get a consensus when I originally asked it, that it might be of some interest.
