Mosin Nagant - it has ridges!

I'm sporterizing a Chinese M38 and I intend to get it Black-T'd, but the barrel has ridges around its circumference from the receiver to the bayonet lug. I'd like to smooth it out before sending it to Mr. Birdsong. I don't have access to any power equipment, so what is the best process to remove the ridges by hand?
 
sand paper. heavy grit loop under barrel and hold above so it makes a U shape. work through the rougher grits and eventaully hit the fine grits. works good, but takes time.
 
Draw Filing. Draw filing is used to produce very smooth and true surfaces. To draw file, hold the file at right angles to the direction of the strokes, with your hands close together to prevent breaking the file. Pressure should not be great and can remain the same for the back stroke, as the teeth cut in both directions when using the file in this manner.

works great on an octagon barrel....
 
"Works great on an octagon barrel." True. On a round barrel, you just take one stroke, move the file around a bit, take another, and so on. Keep the strokes light and go around the barrel until it is all smooth. Then finish off with the sandpaper (emery cloth is better as it stays together longer) using the "shoeshine" motion.

Mosin Nagant Flash Suppressor

In the process of sporterizing my M38, I removed the bayonet lug/barrel extension to install a flash suppressor. Originally, I intended to fabricate a homemade one, but now I'm wondering if there are any manufactured ones that will screw on if I thread the barrel where it is reduced for the bayonet lug. Do any of you know of such a critter?
