More Waist Pack Carry

I have plenty of CC holsters, but this year I started using a waist pack for my daily summer carry. I am older and it seems old guys just look in place wearing a waist pack. Recently my daily pack was not a "made for gun" type, but still worked well for my S&W 36 or my Colt Det. Special.

This worked so well for me that I decided I would like to carry my medium frame semi's in a waist pack. I purchase a Bulldog "made for gun" pack from my local gun shop. It really works well for my XD9 service or my PT945. This pack has good wide straps and even the ability to also attach to your belt. Has a side opening so you just pull the zipper down and slide you hand inside to retrieve your pistol.

I admit younger guys might not like this mode of carry, but any of you older members have good waist pack carry set-ups?

(I didn't call them Fanny Packs because that sounds too sissy:))

I carried waist pack carry for years. People have asked me numerous times if I was carrying a weapon in my bag. About a year ago I was in Dallas on vacation and went to visit a Bass Pro. I was wearing the waist bag when a worker at the store approached me and straight out said "you are either gay or a cop." I was kinda shocked at the comment. He said that the bag gave me away. Maybe it was his favorite line. I told him that I was unaware of what he was saying. He said everyone knows it. News to me! I assured him I was LEO!

Never had an issue in my area. No one seems to pay any attention. Even when I carry in a holster and you can see a lump (not printing) no one seems to pay any attention. I guess it's because this is a gun friendly area. I know two LEO's that teach local civilian classes for CCW license. Their view is that all law abiding citizens should be allowed to carry.

BTW, if I am asked by anyone (other than LEO), then the answer is it's personal items in my bag and you don't have a need to know.

Also, there are absolutely no stores in my area that post against licensed carried pistols.

Not me. But I'm only 56. When I see someone with a fanny pack and I'm not at Disneyland, the gay thing doesn't even cross my mind. Gay guys are too vain for fanny packs. I just assume "Gun!" Sorry. I go with pocket carry myself.

I'm 69. Even my wife has given-up on my dress code. She asks what I have in my waist pack and I tell her "just my .45, spare mag, flashlight, wallet, cell phone", etc. Still weighs half what her purse does.:D

Guess you would think 50% of the state is carrying during summer around here. I got a belly bag this year because I always need to carry certain things when I'm on the motorcycle, and dragging my purse around at bike week just doesn't work. Belly bag has asperine, eye drops, kleenex, sunscreen, chapstick etc. in it (no gun). A good percentage of female motorcyclists (as well as plenty of men and plenty of women that aren't on bikes) do this also.

From my experience, there are two types of fannypacks and two types of fannypack wearers.

Of the fannypacks, the first type is the boxy ugly, after-thought looking style that is often leather or at least is black, such as the one in the link above. It does not look like your stereotypical tourist fannypack that sags and droops. The shape and color combo are often a give-away as to what is actually contained within it because tourists and athletes don't use them for normal stuff and it isn't for camera gear.

The second type of fannypack looks more like what tourists carry, though some tend to be a bit large. They are not boxy. They are often quite colorful. They sag appropriately. Of these, you have "gunnysacks" that are designed to carry guns and you have typical fannypacks into which someone has placed a gun. Sometimes the latter results in some strange bulges that can be a give-away.

Of the two types of fannypack carriers, you have those who look like they are carrying a fannypack for no other reason than it must contain something like a gun, and those who carry a fannypack as a utilitarian garment. The former folks are those you may spot where they have their keys hanging out of their pockets, cell phone on their belts, imprint of a wallet in their back pocket, and sunglasses either being carried some place other than the fanny pack (when inside and glasses aren't worn over the eyes). So you have to ask yourself, "If that person's accessories are everywhere but the fannypack, what is in the fannypack?"

Then you have folks who carry a gun in their fannypack, but then also use a fannypack like a utilitarian accessory they were designed to be. Tourists certainly use them this way. They actually carry stuff in them other than a gun. If you spot one in a mall and the person purchases something, you will see them extract money or a wallet from the fannypack. When their phone rings, they dig it out of the fanny pack. And so on.

Well this is my first pack that was made for pistol carry. It has an internal adjustable holster that fits all of pistols that I have tried so far. The side zipper allows you to reach in the side and not the top. Just pull down the zipper and reach in and your hand is on the butt of the pistol. Flip the velcro strap and it's out.
