Africa and Asia push for 'new world order'
Boyd Webb | Jakarta, Indonesia
22 April 2005 08:58

African and Asian leaders, representing two-thirds of the global population, met in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Friday to discuss ways of achieving "a new world order".

The talks were part of the Asia-Africa Summit (AA) co-hosted by Indonesia and South Africa.

Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, South African president Thabo Mbeki and United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan opened discussion by urging leaders to push for a new world order.

"Your peoples pay the highest price for inaction in the face of massive violations of human rights, and for the strains placed on the UN's peacekeeping, peace building and human rights machinery," Annan said.

He said developing countries suffered more than any others from the proliferation of small arms, light weapons, the scourge of landmines, and often bore the brunt of acts of terrorism and the events they unleashed.

"If we are to make our world a fairer, freer and safer place for all its inhabitants, the institutions of the UN should reflect the world of 2005, not 1945 -– particularly the Security Council."

He urged African and Asian leaders to attend the next UN meeting in New York in September, in force and well prepared in order to effect the necessary changes.

In his address, Mbeki urged leaders to use the summit to build and strengthen cooperation.

"We must mobilise all the political and moral spirit of Asia and Africa."

He said leaders should use their combined strength to give life to the ideals of the 1955 Bandung Conference which sought to eliminate poverty and underdevelopment and effect the economic rebuilding of Asia and Africa.

Yudhoyono agreed. He said it had taken 50 years for Africa and Asia to come together again, but they were now stronger and more able to take up the challenges they faced.

He reminded the conference that in 1955 many Asian countries had only just gained their independence and African countries were still colonies.

He described the Asian and African influence as the "missing link" in global politics.

"Now as Asia and Africa are free we must take on the battle for good governance and dignity. But the battle for dignity is not necessarily easier than the battle for freedom," he said.

He noted that before him stood a powerful group of leaders who combined represented almost half the world's population (about 4,5-billion people) and a gross domestic product (GDP) of about $9,3-trillion. This was said to be larger than that of the European Union.

Putting the AA into perspective, a South African Foreign Affairs official Anil Sooklal described the coming together of the 106 countries as significant.

"It's a powerful bloc," he said, noting that Asia was growing economically at just over six percent a year and Africa at four, compared to most of Europe which recorded between one and two percent growth last year.

He said the bloc also contained 70% of the world's mineral reserves and that if AA discussions were successful, free trade agreements would be reached. These he said could effectively eliminate Western influence in the diamond, gold and oil trade
between the two regions.

Last year trade between Asia and Africa stood at $72-billion, he said, but added it had been growing at an impressive average of 10% per annum.

Yudhoyono said the AA had to be in the forefront of global co-operation in order to attain the 1955 objectives of poverty eradication and the achievement of human rights.

The most fundamental, he said, was the right to life.

"No person should die because they are too poor to live," he said.

Foil hat award today goes to Baroness Margaret Thatcher, former British Prime Minister who was forced to resign over her resistance to the EU political Union:

"Their short-term goal is to subordinate American and other national sovereignties to multilateral authorities; their long-term goal, one suspects, is to establish the UN as a kind of embryo world government."
- Baroness Margaret Thatcher, December 12, 1997

That is so sick. Those are the countries whose populations need small arms the most. Indonesia? The same country that sponsored death squads that fired on civilians fleeing in rafts?

"No person should die because they are too poor to live," he said

Very true, but no one should be forced to give up their money to help them, if that is where that quote was going.

The citizens are the ones that need weapons, not the military and warlords in those countries.

jefnvk...

You should know that 'citizens' are just serfs, ignorant, childlike, emotionally explosive. They are incapable of making responsible decisions regarding things like personal self defense. Those weighty matters are best left to the UN and other groups of adult elites. ;)

Arnt these the same lands that have the highest HIV epedimic level

They cant even keep it in there pants and they want to tell us how to live.
And isnt the person in charge of the UN who is from the same location having a little problem with stealing millions of dollars from the UN?

I can only say to the UN SHUT THE heck UP or we will nuck the, ah no somthing even worse,,, take all our money we give you away.

Nothing new to the posters thus far, but for any newcomers that want an insight into what the global plantation managers have in store for your private gun ownership - go to the U.N. website and in their site search engine run the exact phrases; "small arms" or "light weapons".

But don't worry; the "republican" leaders won't ever let them have your guns. George W Bush and his successors will stand up to these people - the entire rest of the world...

"Stand up?" How about bend over?? :barf:

Yet one more reason to completely dismantle the U.N.

It outlived its charter (to prevent the outbreak of WWIII) as soon as the Soviet Bloc collapsed under its own weight. Now it's just flailing, trying to remain relevant.

BWAHAHAHA!

Lines like these are classic:
it had taken 50 years for Africa and Asia to come together again
so they could kill each other in Darfur?
He noted that before him stood a powerful group of leaders who combined represented almost half the world's population (about 4,5-billion people) and a gross domestic product (GDP) of about $9,3-trillion. This was said to be larger than that of the European Union.
which is still less than the GDP of California per person. Pop. 33,871,648+/- GDP $980 Billion
Your peoples pay the highest price for inaction in the face of massive violations of human rights
And where was Kofi's voice during the Rwanda fiasco? Why are UN troops raping in the Congo? Who's inaction is to blame? Why hasn't the UN sent African troops to Darfur?
"We must mobilise all the political and moral spirit of Asia and Africa."
Because Zimbabwe and Indonesia have shown themselves to be the "Light of Democracy and Tolerance?"

Despite Kofi Annan's lame duck dreams, India and China and Africa haven't a prayer in the world as long as they listen to snake oil salesmen like Kofi. Blaming others for your problems will get them nowhere...l

Spin is Spin....no matter how you cut it.

Well, LAK, you've really uncovered something extraordinary here. I'll assume that the author's use of the terrifying code phrase, "new world order" is what caused this blip on your radar.

But then I read the rest of the article. Here's what I got from it:
- Some in the faster growing Have-Not countries of Africa and Asia would like to exploit their growing economic power against the slower growing forces of "Haves". (Clearly a direct assault on my person, as one of the "Haves".)

- Their mention of death rates by violence is clearly a secret signal that the end goal of disarming Americans is nigh. (File in the "666" drawer, I guess.)

- They wish to eliminate poverty and underdevelopment in Asia and Africa. (My God, the sky is falling! They want to do WHAT?)

- They wish to establish the UN as a supreme World Government. (While it's quite true that some people in power at the UN wish to expand that power, this is hardly a surprise. All powers seek more power. Oops, I just realized, the UN-Taking-Over-the-World quote was not part of the article at all....it was simply LAK's usual commentary.....known by any other name as "SPIN".)

Well, I for one have had enough. Katie, bar the door and get my Krag and uniform. The Blue Helmets are coming!

Rich

Careful Rich,

You wouldn't want to run afoul of the New World Order Industrio-Capitalist Uber Secret Security Directorate and Storm Door Company, wouldja? They hold their meetings at local Masonic lodges, monitor your thoughts through an elaborate group of otherwise innocent kitchen appliances and send out coded warning letters in envelopes which state 'YOU MAY ALREADY BE A WINNER'.
Be very careful.

jdberger,

No doubt any genuine independent political movement in Darfur are being wiped out. Sounds like East Timor; watch for a future "restoration of order" and a new "democratically" obliging political force in that region. They'll be falling over themselves to sign contracts for any oil, gas and mineral operations - just like the smiling puppet in East Timor.

It wouldn't matter whether the per capita output of Homer was higher than that of Africa and Asia; it is the aggregate that counts when it is under the control and direction of a single political entity that make or break markets. And we are set to be overtaken by the combined market and production of Europa alone - let alone Africa and Asia.

Of course the U.N. isn't going to do anything in the Congo; the last time they did they had a little massacre in Katanga to protect a communist regime. They won't do anything there now unless they can put a Chevron-DeBeers-friendly regime in place. In the meantime they'll snuff out a few million useless eaters as a bonus to any geneuine independent political activity.

Besides; who needs the U.N. when you have your own private armies.

Rich,

Actually the quote is not mine; your intellectual credit is due to Ex-British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher.

The latest award, and you can see is not mine either. Perhaps you should send them a jeering note and a roll of foil ;)

And today's tinfoil hat award goes to ... the good folks of ... the Trilateral Commission ....

"What are the goals of the Trilateral Commission?

At its first meeting, held in Tokyo in October, 1973, the Trilateral Commission’s Executive Committee issued a declaration outlining the organization’s rationale and aims, a declaration which remains relevant today:

1. Growing interdependence is a fact of life of the contemporary world. It transcends and influences national systems. It requires new and more intensive forms of international cooperation to realize its benefits and to counteract economic and political nationalism."

http://www.trilateral.org/moreinfo/faqs.htm

gburner,

Jot a note down to the Trilateral Commission chairman and tell them that their pursuit of "new and more intensive forms of international cooperation to realize its benefits and to counteract economic and political nationalism" in the U.S. will fail - because you and your we're-not-so-stupid-we-can-see-thru-you patriots will "rise up and stop them". ;)

These he said could effectively eliminate Western influence in the diamond, gold and oil trade
between the two regions.

Uh, yeah. Nevermind who your consumers of these goods are.
Wow, this is really a humorous article!

LAK...

I can't seem to put my hands on the Tri-Lateral Commission's addy. Could you please pulse-transmit it to me via the blender in my kitchen. I'll have it set on 3,000 rpm at 10:00 pm EDST. I'll put the blender on frappe for best reception. I'll send a reply by way of my toaster overnight. Don't let me down.
