Remember, most likely a lot of you will not be seeing this information for several days due to Shot Show. I just thought I'd give you all a scoop, and get some input from the shooters here on the forum.

I just found this out, and it sounds like a step in the right direction. Up until now the only interchangeable pistol barreled pistol has been the TC Contender.

It looks promising, and opens pistol hunting up to a whole new breed of shooters.

Rossi Wizard Pistol

The Wizard Pistol takes the same break-open interchangeable barrel system and makes it lighter and smaller for handgun hunting, target shooting or plinking. Available in .243 Win. or .22-.250 Rem with other calibers coming soon, the Wizard Pistol offers outstanding and reliable performance.

H&R never made one because Remington bought them out, and, in essence, shut down half of their production capabilities. That, however, is a whole other story.

I'm definitely glad Rossi 'got the ball rolling', and produced one. It appears, from my end, that it will be available in other calibers by as early as late Summer 2011. I'm hoping for a .223 and/or 7-30 Waters.

I too always wondered why H&R never made one.

Found a pic. Looks like it would be a fun blaster.

Thanks kozak6!

I got the picture in the corresponding email this morning, but didn't have a source link for it.

It's pretty darn close to a TC Contender!

Tom ...

I would assume that it should run around the same mark as the Rossi Single Shot rifles. They wouldn't go above the base on the rifles or it would defeat the purpose.

It's not an official 'guess', but I'm thinking around $375 MSRP which would translate to around $275 to $325 depending on where you live.

At any rate ... it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a TC Contender. ;)

Dang!,,, No sights,,,

Why inna heck would they make a handgun with no iron sights.

I would love to have a pair of these in .22 LR,,,
But I don't want to mount a scope on a handgun.

So danged close,,,
But no cookie.

+1

At that price point, I could finally get myself to spring for a .223 SS pistol. An old friend had a .223 Contender that was a blast to shoot and super accurate. I always sorta wanted to get one, but haven't been willing to let go of the cabbage for what would be for me just a fun range gun.

I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Smith & Wesson has a Judge clone called the Governor. No word on MSRP yet.

...I swear, they'll make that, but they won't make a .500 lever-action.

The "Matched Pair" is also interesting. The synthetic furniture is ugly, and the .410 barrel is silly, but the prospect of a single shot .22 pistol has me rather excited. Hopefully, wooden furniture from the Wizard pistol can be adapted.

well it's not a thing of beauty but that matched pair seems like it would be a great kit gun. I plan on taking a closer look when I get the chance.

What do they mean by this statement?

the same break-open interchangeable barrel system

Same system as the rifle? If that's the case, could one of these pistol uppers be put on a rifle lower making an illegal SBR?

Just because the system is the same doesn't mean the rifle and pistol barrels and receivers are interchangeable. I'm sure they have slightly modified the pistol barrel/receiver so they won't fit the rifle barrel/receiver.

It will be on the owner to not break the law. Thompson went through the same issue years ago.

Many things out there can get one into trouble if you want trouble.

I think I'll stick with the Thompson till I see the price and options for the Wizard.

I'll bet my next paycheck that the Freedom Arms single shot is a LOT better built gun.

yes but doesn't the freedom arms model come with a 4 digit price tag? the rossi is a $300-400 gun. if I had the cash to throw around I'd get the FA and not look back. as it is I can barely afford a tompson center.

just checked the FA website. $1500 for the gun in 1 caliber and $500 for each barrel and they only offer 9 chamberings. it looks like a beauty but dang that's a lot of cheddar.
