More Rifle Ideas, just for the heck of it.

None of these are particularly groundbreaking, but I think somebody'd like 'em, if they were high quality and reasonably priced.

-I noticed that the .35 Remington cartrdige has a rebated rim. So why not load it into an autoloader? I'm imagining a semiautomatic carbine, 16" or 20" barrel, 10 round single stack detachable box magazine (five rounders available for hunting). Sling loops, adjustable peep sight, scope mount. Wood or synthetic furniture.

-You can stack rimmed cartridges into box magazines if you do it right, as the Enfield rifle proves. How about this? A gas-operated, semiautomatic rifle, again, 16" or 20" barrels, peep sights, and scope mounts, chambered in .45-70 Government, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, and .444 Marlin? The gas operation would take down the recoil of the hard hitting .45-70 and .444 cartridges, I think, and 10+1 rounds of .45-70 is nothing to sneeze at.

Nightcrawler,
Remington had the same idea 95 years ago, when they introduced the Model 8 Autoloading rifle. The .35 Remington was a caliber created for that particular recoil operated semi-automatic carbine. Single stack detachable magazines of 5 and 10 rounds to.

Someone on the AK-47 forum was trying to make a 8rnd semi-auto .444 and .45-70 rifle based off of the AK based Saiga .410 shotgun. They did some measurements and figured out that is wasn't feasible, although I have my doubts. I'd love a semi-auto carbine in .45-70, but a semi-auto carbine in .458 American would be easier from a magazine feed perspective, as it is a chopped .458 Win Mag. I've heard of custom Browning BAR's and Garands in .458, so its not too far-fetched.
