More reasons to immigrate to the USA

I was just looking through some Nutnfancy YouTube videos. There was one with him and his son at the 2012 Shot Show talking to Mr. Ronny Barrett. I was amazed to find that most if not all of the mentioned sniper rifles can be sold to civilians. Amazing because I'm from a super strict anti-gun country. Canada. Don't believe his rifles will be or are sold in Canada to civilians.

Are his guns (listed on his website http://www.barrett.net/) sold to civilians in all states?

Only state they are illegal I am aware of is California, and not all of them, just the .50 BMG ones. Semi autos with a detachable magazine will bump in to California's idiotic "Assault Weapon" ban as well, but it looks like he sells a California complaint version of the Model 82A1 in .416 Barrett with a Non-Detachable Magazine

Any of his bolt action models in something other than 50 BMG are legal anywhere in the US to the best of my knowledge.

And from what I know, the .416 Barrett looks like it has it all over the standard .50 in terms of staying supersonic over greater distances. Just sayin'!:D

There are several rounds that best the .50 in any role aside from perhaps anti-material, and since we aren't having to (and aren't likely to have to) stop APCs or tanks they will stop any creature and most vehicles on earth, the .50 ammo is easier to find at the local gun shop, however.

In the US, rifles that are "too short," "too quiet," or "too fast" have a lot of restrictions on them (short-barreled rifles, suppressors, and full-auto/burst). The Barrett doesn't fall under those, so it's good to go in most states.

I'm living in LA right now actually. :) It's interesting to be living in a state with so much violence (e.g. gangs, other criminals, extreme nut jobs...with legal and illegal weapons. etc.) and be a state with more strict gun laws than most other states.

If the 50 cal is the only Barrett rifle that is illegal I'd think Californians would still be happy. Barrett rifle fans or not. Being able to own/shoot sniper rifles. As I said, I'm from Canada, and sniper rifles are not allowed (own or sale). Nor CC. OC. Suppressors. Etc.

On the other hand..if one could afford a Barrett "civilian" sniper rifle...how often would it be shot? :) It's probably a once a year gun. :) Unless you live in states like Tennessee where you can actually build firing ranges in your backyard if you had the acreage. Another freedom Canadians will never have...though, I assume this freedom is rare even in the US. I'm guessing only states like TN, TX, GA...allow for "backyard ranges".

One of these days..just might consider immigrating :) (...well, not just for "gun liberties" but it would be one of the major reasons...).

I have a range in my back yard. I'd imagine it's legal to have a "range" anywhere it's legal to own guns - if you have the land. If you live in town there may be ordinances against discharging firearms, but if you live on enough of your own land you're probably okay even in CA.

As far as the Barretts being legal, "Sniper rifles" are a pretty small step up from hunting rifles. The most common "sniper rifle" is - I think - still the Remington 700.

No such thing as a sniper rifle. There are rifles used by snipers and they can be about anything from a .22lr in bolt action up to a semi .50bmg. Look at what Carlos used, heck Lee Harvey used a 6.5mm M38 Carcano.

Yup - That's the REAL gun Control thinking.

i.e. Thinking "sniper rifles" are bad & should be restricted, when in reality they're no different from most modern scoped hunting rifles, excepting finish.

Very much like the calling every autoloading rifle an "assault rifle" BS.

Separate & conquer, separate & conquer.....................
