The one on the left is the spacer to make the cleaning rod and cleaning jag go only to the chamber mouth.
You slip the cleaning rod into it and use the small rod in the picture to go through the spacer and the cleaning rod both, forming a T handle.

interesting, i never ran across those parts....

were they specific to later year mosins?

Standard issue items (part of the cleaning kit), along with the bayonet, multitool, and ammo pouches ..... there's a good pic here (scroll down a bit): http://www.impactguns.com/russian-m...tion-with-accessories-m9130-787450007512.aspx

I find it interesting that you have done so much modding of your Mosin, yet know so little about what you started with ...... spend some time reading at 7.62x54r.net ......

Thanks.

I figured out the cleaning jag. Will have to try the others. I didn't get the tear shaped wrench. Do I need that?

If you value your rifle, don't actually use any of them..

Even with the muzzle protector, I'd never use the military cleaning rod, and jag from the muzzle end.

If it's worth owning, it deserves a quality one-piece cleaning rod and brass (not STEEL) jag...

I didn't get the tear shaped wrench. Do I need that?

It is used to check firing pin protrusion, among other things ....

This is the Information Age ..... take advantage of it now......

The Rus made a rifle design for The Apocolypse ...and it was sorely tested .... and always worked .....

The Rus simpified everything, such that in primitive conditions, things could be made to work ......

you can just get another one via buymilsuplus.com

they sell everything for the mosin, (just dont do expedient shipping)

(for tear shape wrench)

Good point

You make an excellent point. The steel rod that comes with the gun is a nice piece of history but not a good choice for the care and feeding of the rifle.
