More on the New Nano!

Today I ran 150 factory rounds through the Nano. 50 each of Rem 115, American Eagle 124, and Winchester 115. Add to that the 18 rounds of z-max and I have 168 rounds of factory ammo thru the gun. Those 168 rounds saw 5 failed to eject (meaning the case stayed in the chamber) and three stove pipes which could be from "limp wristing" a foible I've been guilty of before. All of the failed to ejects required removal of the magazine and one required a field strip. Not counting the stove pipes this represents a failure rate of 3 percent. I'm not sure how "bad" that is in a CC gun. I'm guessing/hoping it will get better as the gun gets more broken in.

In the mean time, I haven't called Beretta yet about the rear sight that fell off. Plan on doing that soon.

I ran it along side my Beretta 92fs and I could really feel the trigger pull difference. The 92 is so much lighter than the Nano. But then I want a tough pull on a CC gun.

Will let you know what Beretta says/does about the sight that fell off and was lost.

The one thing that keeps me from buying a Nano is that darned trigger pull. So ridiculously heavy. I got a Shield 9mm instead and I am so glad i did, what a weapon.

Three percent failure rate for cc? That would be WAY TOO MANY. Absolute deal breaker. I recommend you solve this whether it's you or the ammo or the Nano before you even pretend to depend on it. Your failure rate should get to be low enough that you cannot remember the last malfunction you had. I know it can be tough to get right with little cc guns-I have one but it has run many hundreds of rounds since I figured it out and I do not recall the last malfunction and do not anticipate another. Good luck to you and safe shooting.

More then any other new design, the Nano strikes me as a multishot derringer more then anything else.

At the real world ranges it is meant for, this is not a detriment.

It would just be nice to read about better reliability from this gun.

I hope this is'nt a limp wristing or grip issue that a better ammo choice can't fix.

I have handled it and the Shield and liked the Shields weight distribution better in pocket carry.

Also, the very light weight, thin plastic design of the Nano ,to me, gave it a kind of cheap construction to it.

I just liked the Shield better that day.

I had issues with weaker 115 gn. ammo in my Nano in the first couple hundred shots. Ammo with more oomph, or heavier ammo was always good. As it got more used it became 100% reliable with everything. Never had sight issues though. I trust it fully now.

Called Beretta and . . .

I called Beretta today and they are sending a new rear sight, no questions asked. I didn't talk about the failures to eject. If that is still happening 200 rounds from now then I'll call them again.

Got the sight replaced.

Shooters:

I called Beretta and was told they'd send a new rear sight. Had to call again a few weeks later as it had not come. Second time the guy who answered the phone said they have a bunch of rear sights in their office and when they get "one of these calls" they just mail out the sight. Kind of tells one that this is a real problem with the Nano. Anyway the new sight came this time.

But between class and rehearsal and touring with our performance group and getting a house ready to sell I haven't made it to the range again to see if there is an on going "failed to eject" problem.

I read somewhere else, maybe this forum, that someone had a FTE problem and had sent their Nano into Beretta where is was fixed and the gun runs fine now. Hmmmm . . . I really expect better quality from Beretta.

Will keep you informed.

Sights - blue locktite the front and rear screws, that will keep sights from falling off or loosening. Shouldn't need to, but there it is, and it is cheap. I got lucky and my front sight fell off into my hand.

Ammo issues - this gun likes 124gr ammo. mine is 100% with it. 115gr is reliable, but not ccw reliable. yes, things loosen up after several hundred rounds. it does NOT like underpowered cheap ammo (in my experience).

124gr ammo, blue locktite. (and talon grips, and Pearcegrips magazine extension...)

I have no complaints, I researched prior to purchase and knew the early gen's had issues, and 124gr ammo was needed. my new gen is fine. I broke the slide hold open thingy @ 950 rounds, and beretta fixed it free including shipping.

Enjoy.

Leave the slide locked back for a few days to break in the recoil springs a bit. The Nano's RSA is too heavily sprung for weaker ammo.

I bought a nano due to the stellar reviews but never developed a liking for it no matter what I shot in it. But that's just me. Was happy to sell it for close to what I paid.

I bought a Nano when they first came out. Jam-O-matic. Factory blamed it on everything including projectile weight, cheap practice ammo, and limp wristing.
Funny how none of my other guns had a problem with me or what I fed them.

On the forums, the Beretta fan boys gave me a bad time. When I would state my experiences they would follow my post with rude remarks about me personally.

I sent it in at my cost a couple of years later and they rebuilt it. Sold it without hesitation, just as soon as it came back. If Beretta said it was now OK, then I have no guilt for selling a bad gun.
