More on PT - 22

Have had my little PT - 22 about a year now. The final word is that standard velocity 22 ammo just does not work well. Almost any brand of high velocity 22 runs well in the gun. I think it has something to do with how stiff the slide is.

I don't carry the little thing often, but when I do a country bike ride in the summer it sometimes comes along.

Life is good.

I had one, wss a fun little gun. Would not function with standard velocity ammo, CCI Minimags worked most of the time with minimal issues but mine absolutely loved hyper velocity CCI Velocitor ammo.

The one I owned was non-functional on purchase. FTF mostly, jamming when it did fire, and it keyholed everything I got it to fire.
Sent it back to Taurus on their dime.
When it came back, it fired ok, but still keyholed. Sold to somebody who did t care.
Much happier with the Beretta Bobcat that replaced it, which has been faultless.

I have the PT 22's Tupperware sibling, the Poly 22. Great little gun. Fun to shoot, surprisingly accurate, and it's been 100% reliable with any high velocity ammo.

amd6547 yes indeed . . .

amd6547 I think your experience is a real hallmark of Taurus products. The quality is seriously inconsistent. I think their customer service is inconsistent too. People on this forum write about how great their Taurus products are and how crappy they are. I suspect Taurus revolvers are generally okay but the semi-autos are a luck of the draw kind of thing. Sorry your PT-22 was junk. Mine has been back to Taurus for repair, but now as long as I run high velocity ammo it runs just fine.

Life is good.

The odd thing being I have read the exact opposite many times. People site the PT92, the PT22, and other Taurus autos as being of good quality, but warn against the revolvers.
I can't say anything against either from my experience. One revolver, PD Poly, and one auto, Poly22. Never a problem with either.

I have a .357 revolver from the mid-80s that has been flawless. Fit and finish matches big name brands. I also have a 99, (2) 92's, and a 58. All have been trouble free. I think when issues are experience they get more exposure than the trouble free guns.

I have a Taurus PT22PLY stainless. Pocket carried it today matter of fact. Once I figured out CCI Mini Mags is what it likes, I got 500 consecutive rounds down the bore without a failure of any kind. Somewhere shortly after that I started getting light firing pin strikes, all it needed was a good cleaning of the firing pin channel, and it has gone another 200 flawless rounds. All I do now is once a month run two mags through it just to make sure it's in working order, clean it and carry until the next month. Mine shoots 3 inches left and an inch low at 10 yards, plenty accurate for a close up pistol. Yea, it's a .22, but I really like the 12 ounce loaded weight. Nice to pocket carry in the summer months.

Also have an old Taurus M83 revolver in .38spcl. Bought it at an auction for $190. Very accurate with light target loads, a hoot to shoot even though I'm not a revolver guy. No problems at all with it.
