staqrting another thread on the '52
I have 2 CZ52's. With the right ammo, they will CLEANLY defeat a level 2A vest and it's metal "shock plate".
I bought a '52 for it's history and MG42 style lock-up. At a gun show, I got some surplus ammo labeled "Berdan primed 1953". It appears that my 1953 ammo is a steel round with a steel case. I took the lot out, along with some recent S+B ammo and shot one of our recently surplused 2A vests. I took the panels apart and shot one-- a clean hole. No threads in a "rat's nest", nothing. Looked like someone burned a hole thru it with a cigarette. The S+B ammo was stopped before penetrating and mushroomed nicely.
Round 2. We hung the whole vest on and old, rotting slice of 1inch plywood downrange. 1 shot and all were penetrated cleanly again. The plywood was quite old and probably didn't do much to stop the round. Shot the same vest with a practice round of .40 SW -didn't penetrate any layers, we walked over and picked the round off the front of the vest like a big tick.
Round 3. We assembled the whole vest and it's sorry little shock plate and lay it against a car tire downrange. These "modern " plates are about as big as your hand and are very thin. The .30 penetrated the metal plate, the 2 panels of the vest, and most of the car tire- we could not easily see the round or dig it out.
Round 4- This even scared me. I have an old K-30 insert from a much older vest. It is about as big as a sheet of notebook paper and weighs about 3 pounds. It appears to be 1/4 inch thick metal. These K-30 inserts come wrapped in 1 layer of Kevlar. I took cover in
a barn and shot it 4 times. 3 total penetrations and one partial [the hole looks like a bird's beak that is half open. 3 of the rounds shed their jackets and the steel cores cleared the metal, but were stopped by the Kevlar wrapping.
In 500 rounds, I have had no jams or problems. I do not like the tiny sights. IMHO, I think the CZ is a great truck or boat gun.......but I couldn't bring myself to trust it 100%. The P7 handles that.
just a point.
