More on American Whitetail

I continue to be very impressed by how well this stuff shoots in 270 and 300 wm IMO beats the pants off Remmie's and Federal's price-point competitors and even rivals some of the more expensive offerings. Does anyone have an approximate idea of the formulation (yes, I'm sure they have a proprietary mix--but likely mostly similar to existing powders would be my guess)?

What caliber?

I like the American whitetail 308 with the 150 interlock. I started loading the same interlock bullets until I found a load that was just as accurate. I am really impressed with the factory load though, and would like to know if anyone has more info on the type of powder used.

Your best bet will be to chronograph it, then find a powder in the manuals that will get you close using the same grain bullet.

You are correct in that they use a proprietary blend and we as reloaders can't get the same stuff.

I would imagine in their Superformance line up of ammunition, that they indeed use Superformance powder. Has anyone had this confirmed from hornady?

I have read on forums that the superformance powder is not the same powder as in the superformancce factory loaded rounds. That is just hear say though. God Bless

Makes sense.

We usually pull a bullet and weigh out the charge, as well as compare it to what is listed in the manuals for the bullet weight, velocity wise. Is it exact, not by any stretch but it usually gets close enough for a starting point.

I shot the plain ol factory Rem CL's in my .308 for years until the prices jumped through the roof. When they did I pulled out some 150gr CL bullets I had purchased in bulk, sat down with my chrony and a jug of H-4895 and went to it. It only took around 3-4 powder increments to hit the same velocity range and a couple of seating changes and I was getting better accuracy. I didn't do it to make anything special up, simply to try and duplicate what I was getting form the factory ammo.

Now if I could duplicate the 150gr Solid Base load from Federal for my 7mm STW I would be ecstatic...:D
