Overheard at Monmouth College: a young man was debating two young ladies on the subject of guns. The two young ladies were antis but didn't seem to have a clear understanding why. Anyway, one of the young ladies said:
"You know, you're just one of those people that nobody likes to argue with, ever."
"Why is that?"
"Because you're always right!"

This last was kind of thrown out there, and it was obvious she'd like to take it back, but the damage was done. . . . . hope that's as funny to you as it is to me.

And no, she didn't admit that she'd just basically admitted that her position was wrong, and the young man dropped the subject.

I've dealt with folks like that...the trouble is, they will see the logic of your point, admit you are right, yet still hold fast to their position because your's violates their preconceived emotional "reality". They will then, henceforth, avoid you so you won't disrupt their tenuous karma....and still work toward whatever their cause is.

I have the same problem.

I've been in a somewhat heated discussion with an ACLU member on my local paper's bulletin board about the ACLU's untenable position WRT RKBA. He's all emotional about it (his girlfriend's son was killed with a gun at the age of 8) and won't relent even though he KNOWS I am right. I keep asking him how do the words "the people" confer individual rights in every place they appear in the Bill of Rights except for the 2nd amendment.

He has yet to answer me.

Amazing isn't it? Yesterday I was talking to a person and we got into media bias. This guy honestly and sincerely thinks the media was gunning for Clinton and gave him an unfair, raw deal during the Monica revelations/impeachment. That set him off and he actually believes that Conservatives control the media because we sometimes hear negative stuff about Bill/Hill/Algore et al.

Ironically, he believes the coke rumors about GWB
