More info on the TZ-99?

In a recent thread, I asked for suggestions on 9mm for close to 300. One recommendation was the TZ-99. The gentleman I was trying to help decided to give one of these a try over the CZ. Dunno about his decision but it is his decision.

One of the things that gives me pause is whether or not there is anyone in the States that services these things. That is, if he buys one and has problems with it, is there anywhere for him to go.

Another question is if 226 grips will fit it. I am guessing not as the ambi-decocker will probably cause a problem.

Will 226 holsters work at least?

Any other general info will be appreciated as I know nothing about these things other than it looks like a 226 with a ambi decocker.

I am somewhat familiar with the tz99. I have handled and shot
one on a couple of occasions. They are patterened after
a 226 sig and I read somewhere a cz 99. I cant tell you about the grips. Century Arms and AIM both sell the pistols. They should be able to fill you in on your questions. The one I shot fit
a leather IWB holster very nicely..I will ask what model of gun it
was made for.

They are visually a quality handgun. with no machining marks and
everything fit togethor very well. They are very comfy for me..I have large hands. I felt very "top heavy" until you loaded the mag..then felt better. They are pretty heavy for a "compact"
pistol... felt much heavier than the 226 we were shooting that day. It grouped with the Sig 226, P/A 14-45, Taurus pt 940
and my CZ all day. I dont know who makes the mags but they
were also what looked and acted like a good product

If I can find anything else out...I will pass it on.
Shoot well

I haven't tried placing my TZ-99 inside a SIGP226 holster, but I did lay it on top of a P226 at the last gunshow. The TZ-99 was shaped and sized virtually the same as the P226. Can't tell you on the grip panels, I've been curious abuot that myself :) If they do interchange, I want those Crimson Trace panels! :)

Have one

Have never tried swapping the grips of my TZ with a P226's as I did not feel there wasn't a need to do so. The TZ grip, IMO, is very slightly more blocky and filling than the SIG's but still comfortable enough. The TZ99 shoots as well as the P226.

Two 15 round mags came with the gun (bought in early October). The mags will not interchange with the SIG's. The mag catch holes are, of course, different which is the reason.

SIG 226 grips and mags will not fit the TZ-99 (nor any other parts for that matter). The pistols are quite robustly built, and do not have a reputation for needing repair. It's also truly ambidextrous, with mag release buttons and deckockers on both sides of the pistol. But parts availability is virtually nil --- other than hi-cap mags, which are quite plentiful and not overly expensive.

As for holsters, many made for the SIG 226 do not work because of the slight downward curve of the bottom of the TZ's trigger guard. I've found that certain H&K versions work quite well, however.

If I were only buying one gun, I'd probably stick with a major manufacturer in order to assure parts availability and warranty work. In which case, I'd highly recommend the CZ75B in the $300 price range.

On the other hand, the TZ-99 makes a neat addition to any gun collection. Mine was very reliable and as accurate as any pistol I've owned. A real pleasure to shoot.

Take care. Marko
