More help!?!

Honest, I'm not trying to get y'all to write my paper for me, but first I write what I feel, then I find the facts to back it up! I'm trying really hard not to go runnin' to ya'll every time, but I want this paper to stick. I want to use this to spank all the anti's in the class, and college (and let me tell you, there are plenty).

My questions are:
1. I need an article from a reputable source that clearly states that Brady was ineffective. JAMA comes to mind, but what edition? I also need info on the actual uses of "assault weapons" in violent crime.

2. I need the SCOTUS case that determined that criminals don't have to register their guns.

The paper is now zipping along. I will submit it sometime in the next few days here for "peer review" if it doesn't take up too much space. Thanks in advance!

1.
quote:
“Although our study detected no reduction in homicide rates in treatment states compared with control states, we found that suicide rates for persons aged 55 years or older were reduced in the treatment states. The estimated association between the Brady Act treatment and gun suicide rates among persons aged 55 years and older is equal to -0.92 per 100,000 (95% CI, -1.43 to -0.42), or about 6% of the gun suicide rate among this age group in the control states after the Brady Act had become law.
However, we did not detect an association of the Brady Act with overall suicide rates. We find some signs of an offsetting increase in nongun suicides to those aged 55 years or older, which makes the reduction in the total suicide rate smaller than the reduction in gun suicides. Neither the increase in nongun suicides nor the decrease in suicides from all causes are statistically significant at the conventional 95% level, though the overall pattern of findings is consistent with theories of "weapon substitution."39[/quote]

The link is now dead for some reason; but it should give you enough information for a cite. You want JAMA volume 284 number 5 - I believe it is this last September's or August's issue.

For info on actual uses of "assault weapons" in crimes see http://www.guncite.com/

2. "We hold that a proper claim of the constitutional privilege against self-incrimination provides a full defense to prosecutions either for failure to register a firearm under sec.5841 or for possession of an unregistered firearm under sec.5851" (Source: Haynes v. U.S., 390 U.S. 85, 100, 88 S.Ct. 722, 732 (1968))

Please email me a copy of the paper at chuangtzu2@hotmail.com when you get it finished.

If your looking for leg work try finding
a book that refers to when registration was used in NAZI germany.
It might also be fun to site how registration was used in NYC or England.
Im sure you already know the gov. was able to confirm that all of the previousl 'legal'
firearms were turned is because they had been registered.
Whats your class made up of 'race' wise.
You might get a few perked eyebrows making the casual remark 'and some oppose guncontrol because of its racist origins in the US to keep freed slaves disarmed'
and have the JPFO booklets handy.
Or is that attack on GC too general and your only after Semi-auto rifle weapon use and
the effectiveness of Brady.

The JAMA was in the past month or three. Look it up.

Look at the FBI's web page. They've got tozno stats... Check out the NBRSI (or whatever... I disremember the perzact initials) stuff in particular - You'll notice that rapists are generally unarmed, and rely only on brute force. That's a BIG argument for ccw and firearms as equalizers between the big bad crooks and normal citizenry...
