More guns than ever

Went to Barnes & Noble read all kinds of gun magazines .

When the gun control act of 1968 all the smaller guns not made in the USA were banned . Lots of fine guns vanished , Walther , Astra , Star & many more gone forever from import . Well today I read at least 10 gun magazines lots company's I never heard of . Many 380 pocket pistols some 38 special & others made right here in the USA . I dont know if there junk or good ? but there are sure lots of new guns for sale many plastic some mixed metals , many were 380 even though 380 ammo seems to be gone ? But they are churning out plenty of pocket pistols for the CCW crowd .

Must have read $100 worth of magazines then put them back on the shelves , had a coffee that was $2.50 which is alot for me as Burger King next door has senior coffee for 53 cents . hope this post is taken for what it is a post nothing more , the spelling is as good as I can do , its just a day out & about there is no point to it except what I read .

Never noticed

I am likely a lot older than you and full grown by the time the 60's rolled around.

I did not notice any decrease in the gun market after the 1968 act. We had all the imports afterward to my knowledge. I even bought a couple foreign made "pocket guns in the early 70's that were made on foreign soil. Buying through mail order became a lot more difficult and controlled.

What I noticed that effected me heavliy was the big Clinton screwup in 1994. He drove the price of semi weapons out of sight and the price of high capactiy mags went through the roof. Prices are just now getting back to reasonable levels.

Just wait until Obama does his hit on the gun market. funny thing is with both Clinton and Obama, people knew what would happen after the election and still voted for them.

Just one example

The Walther PPK. Under the GCA 68, the PPK was banned from import, as its total aggregate dimensions came up 1/4" to small to meet the law.

Walther's answer was the PPK/s, just a tiny bit larger, to meet the import restrictions. Result, original pre-68 PPK pistols became much more expensive.

Cheap imports dried up, or changed just enough to evade the import law. In some cases, US makers took up the slack in the market.

The supply of foreign imports banned under the GCA 68 did not disappear right away, indeed, you can even buy some today, if you look around enough.

From one spelling challenged senior to another, glad you had a cheap date at B&N. As I understand it, in the aftermath of the 68 gun control act some manufactures such as Walther were able to modify existing models to meet the new retirements, some stopped selling to the American market, and others found a loophole in the law that allowed them to make the guns in their existing factories then they shipped the component parts to the U.S. to be assembled here so they were technically made in the U.S.

Safe Shooting All
